Selena Gomez gives us the low-down on her magical new DVD...

What can you tell us about the DVD?

I can tell you that the movie is amazing! It was such an exciting project to work on because you get to see a different side to our characters. The TV show is all about laughing and comedy – and we keep that in the movie, but we also put more heart into the story.

What is your favorite scene in the movie?

There is a sweet scene with Justin and Alex by a campfire, which I really like – but I totally enjoyed doing the action scenes in the movie. I’m a bit of a girlie girl, but it was cool to do some stunts for a change.

Weren’t you scared of hurting yourself performing stunts?

No way! I knew I wasn’t going to get hurt, so it was fine. There’s a huge battle scene with Justin and Alex in the movie – and we spent three days running around in water filming it. It was really tiring and I felt like I wasn’t fit enough, but it was fun. It was a killer workout!

Where did you shoot the movie?

We were really lucky because most of the movie was filmed in Puerto Rico, which is such an amazing place. There were cool beaches, incredible rainforests and wonderful weather. It was beautiful.

What did you get up to when the cameras stopped filming?

We explored! We didn’t get too much time off, but we managed to go to some cool restaurants. We also had a fun night of salsa dancing. We had a great time in Puerto Rico.

Is it true you worked with some local charities while you were there?

It is true! The first time I went to Puerto Rico, I noticed there were a lot of stray dogs around. I have five dogs at home and I love pets, so it was heartbreaking to see so many strays. When I went back to shoot the Wizards movie, I decided I wanted to do something about it.

What did you do?

I found an organization in Puerto Rico that helps animals in need and we did a YouTube video about it. You can see it on the internet if you search for it. We raised awareness about the stray dogs in the video, which is something I’m very proud of.

Do you enjoy working with charities?

I love helping charities. One of the really good things about this business is that I get to use my voice to raise awareness for various issues. I know we’ve got at least 20 people to adopt dogs in Puerto Rico – and we took one home ourselves.

What’s the name of your pet pooch from Puerto Rico?

His name is Chaz and they call him a ‘low rider’ because he’s got big ears with a long body, but he’s really low. He’s like a wiener dog, but bigger. He’s a mutt, but he’s so cute. He’s the best!

Do you find it relaxing to chill with your dogs?

I love to be with my dogs, so I’ll go and walk them or just chill with them whenever I can. I love being around animals.

What else do you like to do in your spare time?

I also love to write, so you’ll always find me Twittering or on my MySpace blog. I Twitter all the time! It’s one of my favorite things to do. I love it!

You’ve said on Twitter that people shouldn’t believe in rumors… Why is that?

Because gossip magazines make up so much stuff. People can talk about me all they want, but it really hurts me when they start to talk about my friends, like Demi Lovato or Taylor Swift. I get really protective about that. That’s when I think it goes too far.

Do you read gossip magazines?

Unfortunately, gossip comes with the territory when you become famous. I try not to read about it anymore. I just laugh it off and focus on my career and my fans.

Isn’t there anything good about gossip?

Well, I love the television show, Gossip Girl. Now that’s good Gossip! I freaked out when I met the cast last year at an awards show. They were sat in front of me, so I got really over-excited. It was really cool to see them, though!

Do you enjoy reading in your spare time?

I love to read, but I don’t get a lot of time to do it. I’m more likely to be found writing or playing music.

Have you read the Twilight books?

I haven’t. You know what? I never got into the Twilight books. I didn’t even try them. I don’t know why, but I’m not into that kind of thing.

What about the Harry Potter books?

I never got into Harry Potter either, which is really weird because now I’m on a magic show!

Is there anything else you like to do in your spare time?

I also love to cook! What’s my favorite dish to cook? I would have to say it’s a pasta dish I made with my grandmother. It has chicken, teriyaki, vegetables and a Hawaiian sauce. It is so good!

How do you cook it?

You start by stir-frying all of the vegetables and chicken in a nice teriyaki sauce. Then you boil the noodles and mix them together in one big pan with the chicken and the vegetables. After that, you pour in more teriyaki sauce along with a little Hawaiian sauce. It’s delicious!

Sounds wonderful! And finally… why should we buy the DVD of Wizards Of Waverly Place: The Movie?

Because it’s full of action, it’s full of comedy and it’s full of fun. I can guarantee Wizards fans will have a good time watching it! Enjoy…

Wizards Of Waverly Place: The Movie is available to enjoy on DVD from 22nd February 2010.
