Miranda - Series 2 episode guide

Miranda Hart returns to BBC Two for a new series of her comedy Miranda, which follows the hapless Miranda's daily quest to fit in and attempt to lead a "normal" life.

There's also the return of Miranda's eccentric mother, Penny, who continues to make embarrassing attempts to marry off her only daughter; plus her old boarding school rival and PR Sloane Tilly and old friend Stevie who runs Miranda's joke shop - mainly by standing back and unhelpfully pointing out where she is going wrong. And she can do with all the support she can get with, among other problems, some serious boy troubles ahead...

Episode 1: The New Me
Monday 15th November 2010

Episode one finds Stevie with her work cut out trying to stop Miranda spending all day in her pyjamas with a packet of biscuits for company – since Gary departed for Hong Kong taking with him her chance of any relationship, no matter how unlikely that was.

Eventually, Miranda decides to move on and become the new her – getting fit, losing weight and transforming into the type of woman her nemesis, Tilly, and hard-to-please mother, Penny, would be proud of. First, however, there's lunch with the girls to negotiate – and with the combination of Miranda and a sushi restaurant anything could happen.

Episode 2: Before I Die
Monday 22nd November 2010

Miranda's recent experience in the graveyard gets her thinking. This week she starts to worry what her life is all about and what people would say at her funeral.

Meanwhile, Tilly and Penny are organising a charity wine-tasting and Miranda thinks perhaps she should start doing some good – but a stint volunteering at an old people's home and an attempt at a parachute jump don't go according to plan, in typical Miranda style. So she pins her hopes on Gary's old friends, Chris and Alison, who are choosing godparents for their baby. They choose her, and she is resolved that she is a good person.

However, after spending time with them she remembers that they are the most nauseating couple ever and doesn't want to be involved in their lives. Miranda decides to ditch her plans for a good eulogy and sets out to prove she is not a worthwhile candidate for a godparent – much to her mother, Penny's, embarrassment.

Episode 3: Let's Do It
Monday 29th November 2010

Things are looking up for Miranda's love life this week when as she finds herself with two dates and two men vying for her affections. As always with Miranda, these things are never simple and she risks losing out on her perfect man.

Tilly is driving Miranda and her mother, Penny, crazy with her plans for her upcoming wedding of the year. But all Penny really wants is for Miranda to be the one walking down the aisle.

Meanwhile, Miranda finds herself with two dates – one with Tilly's fiancé's ghastly best man, Charlie, and another with a charming man whom Stevie has set her up with. Miranda is delighted to find her date with the latter goes uncharacteristically well. But things take a turn for the worse when Miranda attracts some unwelcome attention from Tilly's fiancé and her plans to expose him using a honey trap could result in her losing the man of her dreams. Will Miranda find herself unlucky in love again?

Episode 4: A New Low
Monday 6th December 2010

Miranda has a new friend in Tamara, a waitress at the restaurant. Jealous of the time Miranda is spending with Tamara, Stevie decides to get in on the act and the pair start competing with each other to prove they are better friends with the unsuspecting Tamara. That turns out to be easier said than done when they realise the lifestyle of the 20-something is now some way out of their comfort zone. An art class, complete with life model, proves too much for Miranda, who finds it impossible to keep a straight face.

The tide turns when Tamara makes the mistake of assuming the pair are in their mid-40s and Miranda and Stevie unite to prove that, at 35, they are still young. But are they really able to relive their younger, wilder years – or would they be better off having a hot chocolate and an early night?

Episode 5: Just Act Normal

Monday 13th December 2010

Miranda has some difficulty convincing people she's not actually having a breakdown. But then, an incident in a park with an ice cream van, a handsome jogger, a teacher and a class of six-year-old children is enough to drive anyone up the wall...

When Miranda and Penny end up in the police station, Penny leads the police to believe that Miranda is a bit unstable and they are both forced to see a therapist for an assessment. All they need to do is sit quietly and control their temper with each other – but this is Miranda and her mother, after all. Will the unnervingly silent therapist believe the constantly scrapping pair are just as sane as any other bickering mother and daughter?

Episode 6: The Perfect Christmas

Monday 20th December 2010

Miranda tries to have the perfect Christmas in the final episode of the comedy series but, with a mum and dad like hers, it's not easy. What with her mother's organisational chart, her father's obsession with the weather and a nightmare "best Christmas jumper party", Miranda decides she simply can't take any more and she and Stevie hide, spending Christmas in Miranda's flat with Gary, Clive and Tilly instead.

But this being Miranda, things still don't run smoothly. The presents she ordered online don't arrive, she has an infuriating encounter at the post office, a run in with some carol singers, argues with her friends and is forced back to her parents. Can Miranda salvage the situation and have a merry Christmas after all?
