Holy Fuck: 'LP'

Holy Fuck use found sounds and children’s toys and record live rather than use computer-programmed loops. Recording ‘LP’ live has captured the raw frenetic power that Holy Fuck produce on stage. They don’t fit into a generic rock or electronic category - they create lo-fi noise and Casio-driven rock. Formed in Toronto three years ago, core members Brian Borcherdt and Graham Walsh play Russian Roulette with cheap lo-tech mixers and battery operated keyboards, manipulating their noise with guitar peddles, and producing a sound that sits somewhere between Kraftwerk and the sonic blasts of Add N To X.

'Milkshake' begins with thumping drums and robotic beats, and slowly introduces muffled vocals which faintly overlap with psychedelic synths. 'Lovely Allen' takes an up-beat cut and paste approach that blissfully creeps back and forth bringing to mind any one of a number of songs from The Go! Team’s 'Thunder. Lighting. Strike' album. With its agitated drumming, pulsating synths, pounding bass and relentless feedback, 'Safari' is another highlight. All in all, an impressive release.

Released 22nd October 2007 by Young Turks.
