Raven: The Warrior's Collection

Raven is a quite bizarre children's game show that melds elements of such 1980’s classics as the much-missed BBC show The Adventure Game, ITV's antiseptic Krypton Factor and the superlative and ahead-of-it's-time Knightmare. The conceit is to supplant a group of youngsters (known as warriors) to Scotland and, through a series of grueling tasks, reveal an ultimate champion. Presented by a gruff Scot drama student (the eponymous "Raven"), the entertaining quests play like a more sober Takeshi's Castle, with the four elements creating ever-increasing challenges until one warrior remains.

The issue with releasing the show on DVD with little interactive content is that the linear style of a weekday game show is robbed of all of its interest after one spin, with the results (and ultimate winner) a forgone conclusion each time the disc is played. There is a second disc with more interactive content (though this itself was released as a stand-alone purchase last year), but it's hardly enough to warrant more than one viewing for even the hardiest fan, who would typically own half of this content already.

Extras: Interactive bonus DVD.
