Gaming Reviews

  • FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage (Xbox 360)

The third in the FlatOut series continues the same themes as its predecessors, but this time there's loads more destructible objects (8000 per level!), improved particle effects, real-time lighting and one hell of an all round experience.

  • Armored Core 4 (Xbox 360)

A slight departure from previous incarnations, AC4 opts for a faster-paced redesigned boost mechanic which is more accessible to newcomers, but still leaves plenty of tech stuff to keep those Mech-loving veterans happy.

  • Spongebob & Friends: Battle For Volcano Island (PS2)

Playing exactly like the well-loved Lego Star Wars franchise, Spongebob & Friends: Battle For Volcano Island sees to it that you get to play a bunch of your favourite Nickelodeon characters in a fight against the evil Mawgu to save (you guessed it) Volcano Island.

  • Rafa Nadal Tennis (Mobile)

Rafa Nadal Tennis has excellent presentation, easy to use menus, smooth camera movement, fantastic looking courts and solid character animation. Beyond this superficial front, however, it has very little to offer.

  • Myst (PSP)

More than a decade ago Myst made a huge impact on the PC gaming world. Little seems to have changed graphically in this PSP port, but don't let that fool you into thinking its no good. Trapped on an island who's inhabitants seem to have disappeared and given no instructions, you must progress through a series of puzzles with varying levels of difficulty to unravel a mystery.

  • Worms Crazy Golf (Mobile)

We all know about the legendary Worms, and it's great to see that the franchise has now added a bit of carnage and fun to the staple genre that is Crazy Golf mobile phone games. First off they tie an enemy Worm to the flag, then if that wasn't gruesome enough they swap the ball for a grenade. I'm sure you get the idea.

  • Avatar: The Legend of Aang (PS2)

Based on the popular Nickelodeon cartoon, this game is clearly aimed at kids, with it severely lacking the depth to engage any adult. It takes place in a world divided into different nations by the inhabitants ability to use the elements (fire, earth, water and air) as weapons.

  • Dungeon Siege: Throne Of Agony (PSP)

With a huge variety of enemies to slay in the staple environments, plenty of loot to collect and an impressive symphonic score, Throne Of Agony delivers exactly what you'd expect from a great dungeon crawler.

  • Excite Truck (Wii)

Ah, finally a decent game for the Wii that doesn't rely on endless mini games to keep you hooked. Using the controller's in-built tilt sensor as a steering wheel, you're in for an eye-blistering ride of big air, mega boosts and stunts that puts more serious racing games back in their boxes.
