Spongebob & Friends: Battle For Volcano Island (PS2)

Playing exactly like the well-loved Lego Star Wars franchise, Spongebob & Friends: Battle For Volcano Island sees to it that you get to play a bunch of your favourite Nickelodeon characters in a fight against the evil Mawgu to save (you guessed it) Volcano Island. Clearly aimed at under tens, there are plenty of health packs, easy-to-defeat enemies and very little complexity in the puzzles. This doesn't, however, stop it from being fun.

You steadily unlock a healthy cross section of Nicktoons as you progress through the levels, including SpongeBob SquarePants, Danny Phantom and The Fairly Odd Parents. Meaning you'll want to go back and replay an old level with a new character to use their special ability to reach those previously impossible pick-ups, so you can unlock a movie theatre, secret level or crazy costume. In short there's a lot of replay value to be had. The game's only weakness is the fixed camera position which sometimes makes it difficult to see secret items and platforms just below your field of vision. Battle For Volcano Island is an enjoyable experience which might not blow you away, but it'll have you in stitches, especially if you're under ten.
