Armored Core 4 (Xbox 360)
A slight departure from previous incarnations, AC4 opts for a faster-paced redesigned boost mechanic which is more accessible to newcomers, but still leaves plenty of tech stuff to keep those Mech-loving veterans happy.
Set in a totalitarian future, the story plays out over 39 missions set in various global locations, which more often than not feel much too short and tend to be over a little quickly.
The missions do offer a little variety in game play with defensive objectives as well as the standard kill-anything-that-moves assignments. Some of the environments feel a bit uninspiring, but the phenomenal lighting and particle effects add a magical touch of atmosphere. The Mechs themselves look incredible and have a huge amount of customisation available in a streamlined new interface. Overall the game is well polished and a lot of fun, but how could you go wrong with the combination of cool robots, awesome fire power and massive explosions?
