Avatar: The Legend of Aang (PS2)
Based on the popular Nickelodeon cartoon, this game is clearly aimed at kids, with it severely lacking the depth to engage any adult. It takes place in a world divided into different nations by the inhabitants ability to use the elements (fire, earth, water and air) as weapons.
You take the role of Aang, a young Airbender, in a quest to prevent the Fire Nation from achieving world domination. The main story quickly becomes repetitive, hampered even more so by the small variety of enemies, all of whom seem to attack with a not particularly dramatic lunge.
There are many sub quests, but these are even more boring and involving some totally mundane task. An interesting addition which adds a bit of much needed flavour to the gameplay, however, is the "focus moves" mini game, where you have to press buttons in the right sequence as they pass targets. The cel-shading graphics and voiceovers by the actual cast from the cartoon make for an enjoyable experience for fans of the show, but ultimately the game lacks any solid hooks to keep you playing in the long term.
