I’m A Cyborg coming to DVD
I’m A Cyborg, the latest film from the Korean director of Sympathy For Mr Vengeance, Oldboy and Lady Vengeance, is released on DVD and Blu-Ray by Tartan Video on 26th May 2008.
Young-goon is admitted to a mental institution. Believing herself a cyborg, she charges herself with a transistor radio. She encounters Il-soon a fellow inmate (Jung Ji-hoon), who believes he can steal other people’s traits, and convinced he’s gradually fading away to become a dot. However, he steals ‘the sleep flying method’ to help Young-goon move freely about, and also the ability to yodel so that he can sing to Young-goon when she feels low. But more specially, he steals her sense of ‘sympathy’ and feels her sadness for her. When Young-goon refuses to eat, living off a diet of batteries, she decides it’s his job to get her on her feet again.
I’M A CYBORG is a madcap fantasy which splices together the screwball romance of Amelie, Tim Burton’s visionary set designs, One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest’s characters with The Terminator’s body count. It weaves drama and comedy together to create a dream-like fable.
Leading actress Lim Su-Jeong gave a powerful performance on the atmospheric A Tale of Two Sisters, whilst his leading man, Rain, is one of Korea’s biggest pop stars and is set to appear in this Summer’s big screen version of cult TV series, Speed Racer.
This charming, tender and visually arresting film cements Park Chan-wook’s reputation as one of the most gifted and playful filmmakers working today. His next film project, due to start production in March, is set to be Thirst a vampire love story.
Extras include: Tartan UK exclusive interview with Park Chan-Wook at London’s Barbican Centre; ‘Making of’ documentary; deleted scenes; trailers; music video.
