Julian Morris (Donkey Punch) Interview
Starring Jaime Winstone, Nichola Burley and Sian Breckin, Donkey Punch is a no-holds-barred horror/thriller that pushes the genre to its limits and dares to ask the question: Do you know what a Donkey Punch is? Julian Morris plays Josh in the film.
Prior to appearing in Donkey Punch, Julian’s feature film credits include Cry Wolf, Whirly Girl and Don’t Go Breaking My Heart. His next feature role is in the upcoming Privileged. Julian’s television credits include appearances in Shark, Miss Marple, Young Arthur, Fish and The Knock. On stage Julian has appeared at The Royal Shakespeare Company in productions of Richard III and Macbeth.
“I was on set filming Privileged when I got the script and I remember having to race back to my trailer between setups to read it. I was gripped from the first few pages. My agent first suggested me for the part of Marcus or Bluey; they're characters who are closer to those I've played in the past and are perhaps more immediately similar to my own personality. Josh had always stayed in my mind though and after reading the script a couple more times, I knew he would be the greatest challenge for me to play. It was his weakness that I was most drawn to, specifically, the separation between the person he would like to be and person that he actually is. I think that's something we can all relate to. Josh is fresh out of university and trying to find himself and, while he’s at it, get laid. That he is such a regular and recognisable person makes the situation he is confronted with that much more thrilling and harrowing.
There were moments of total exhaustion, but every day I knew there wasn't a place I would rather be than on set. The quality of the material and the trust in Olly's vision drove that feeling. Plus, we were having some of the best times of our lives. On the last day we worked a really long day. We were dead tired but we were flying back the next day, so we partied all the way to the hotel room until we had to go to the airport. We all knew we were working on something great and the adrenaline came from that.”
Donkey Punch is released in UK cinemas on 18th July 2008.
