Tom Burke (Donkey Punch) Interview
Starring Jaime Winstone, Nichola Burley and Sian Breckin, Donkey Punch is a no-holds-barred horror/thriller that pushes the genre to its limits and dares to ask the question: Do you know what a Donkey Punch is? Tom Burke plays Bluey in the film.
Tom Burke’s film credits include roles in Dragonheart: A New Beginning, The Libertine, Anastezsi and I Want Candy. His upcoming films include Telstar due to be released in 2008. On television, Tom has appeared in Warriors, Number 13, Dracula, Bella and the Boys, Inspecter Linley and State of Play for the BBC and Casanova, POW and Dangerfield. Stage credits include lead in Don Juan Comes Back From The War and Romeo and Juliet and roles in Scenes from an Execution, The Cult, The Incarcerator, Macbeth and The Monument.
“Bluey goes through a very strange flick in his head. He convinces himself he’s innocent and regresses into a childlike state but remains threatening and aggressive. That’s why I thought he was an interesting character. He feeds off other people’s hysteria. His tormenting of the girls is not sly, it’s crude and vulgar and totally unsavoury. There was talk about making him as charming as possible, but I felt that the audience shouldn’t feel any remorse for him until he’s got the knife in his chest and then any emotion felt is only because he is dying and crying like a baby.
I was working on another film immediately before we started shooting, otherwise I would’ve liked to hang around people who revolved in the same circles as Bluey, so most of the character was built up entirely from my own imagination. He’s trying to be cool and impressive by using an odd mix of black London and ‘geezer’ talk but underneath it all he’s still unsure of who he really is.”
Donkey Punch is released in UK cinemas on 18th July 2008.
