Jay Taylor (Donkey Punch) Interview

Starring Jaime Winstone, Nichola Burley and Sian Breckin, Donkey Punch is a no-holds-barred horror/thriller that pushes the genre to its limits and dares to ask the question: Do you know what a Donkey Punch is? Jay Taylor plays Marcus in the film.

Prior to his role in Donkey Punch, Jay Taylor appeared in The Rise of The Footsoldier. On television he will next be seen in The Fixer, other credits include Daphne, Holby City, Eastenders and Mr. Wroe’s Virgins. Theatrical roles include The Police and Titus Andronicus (Shakespeare’s Globe). During his time at RADA he was in over ten productions including Mothers and Sons, In the Jungle of the Cities, The Good Soldier and Twelfth Night.

“We didn’t feel the pressure of the tight schedule because Olly gave us absolute support as a director. It’s a very traditional film in terms of narrative, in that it’s got a relatively straightforward plot. The extreme nature of the story could have easily turned into a slasher flick, but it’s much more psychological. There’s a real sense of purpose and deliverance.

I was originally up for the part of Sean, but I could identify with all of the male roles. Marcus is a straightforward guy from a wealthy family; he’s been to university and is now ready to go to military school but finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. His actions eventually become quite selfish, he’s clearly looking out for number one.

It’s gruesome, but there will be a lot of people who will identify with these characters and some that will find it very shocking. It’s one of those ‘What would you do?’ situations, where the fight for survival brings out everyone’s true colours.”

Donkey Punch is released in UK cinemas on 18th July 2008.
