Batman Begins voted best prequel ever

In a survey of film fans conducted by Screenrush.co.uk, Batman Begins fittingly tops the charts as the best prequel ever to grace our silver screens with a whopping 48% of the vote.

As the UK gears up for the release of The Dark Knight, Screenrush.co.uk, the online destination for film fans and cinema-goers, has identified the top five best prequels ever made in the history of film.

From Daniel Craig in those shorts to a young Harrison Ford, here are the other top four prequels:

- Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom
with 27% of the vote
- Casino Royale
in at 13%
- Red Dragon
with 8% of the vote
- Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith
, making up the final 4% of the vote.

Combined, the entire Star Wars prequel trilogy accounted for 12% of the vote.

Prequels seem to score higher with film fans than sequels, which are often seen as let downs to the original. The Screenrush poll also revealed the top five worst ever sequels made; movies so bad, forget about ‘straight to DVD’, they should have gone ‘straight to the skip’...

- Speed 2: Cruise Control with 58% of the vote
- Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls with 16% of the vote
- Alien vs Predator: Requiem with 13% of the vote
- Batman and Robin at 10% of the vite
- Teen Wolf Too at 3%

Tom Swallow, spokesperson for Screenrush.co.uk, commented “Bad sequels often steal the limelight and tarnish the original film, being seen with a fair degree of cynicism as trying to cash in on a popular movie franchise. However, our survey found that prequels in general often exceed expectations and are even more loved then the movies they’re meant to precede. Looking at our list, the winning film, Batman Begins, and indeed Casino Royale, are technically re-imaginings or ‘re-boots’ of the series, created to refresh the story line using the same characters, but with a new look and style.”

Swallow continued, “All of this bodes incredibly well for Dark Knight and I for one am very excited to see the film on Friday and add it as one of my favourite films ever. In the meantime, fans can check out www.screenrush.co.uk to find trailers and competitions for the new Batman movie as well as discover new facts about all of their old favourites. Many people didn’t even realise that Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom was a prequel for instance!”
