Tiny Masters Of Today: 'Skeletons'
Brooklyn’s Ivan and Ada, aka Tiny Masters Of Today, are back with a second album which will still impress as much as their previous work, provided you bear in mind they’re still young teenagers.
'Skeletons' is very consistent, but unfortunately it's fairly samey stuff - or perhaps it just takes a while to get into. With its grungy riffs, stompy opener ‘Drop the Bomb’ is nearly all instrumental and sets the pace of the album.
The title track starts with ferocious drumming (especially for a 15 year old), while the guitar work is scratchy and contagious, but at times is just plain simple and compact. Current single ‘Pop Chart’ comes next and again it has that simple, low-key yet catchy riff. It sounds infantile, but they get away with it for the obvious reasons, though (like many of this album’s tracks) the song doesn’t seem to go anywhere despite its initial strong appeal.
The rest of the album follows the same points laid out from the start and, while it's unfair to say that 'Skeletons' is boring, you must have to like this band a lot in order to experience any real buzz.
