Their music possesses the ramshackle folk rock of The Arcade Fire and is influenced by the filmic elegance of Ennio Morricone, Sigur Ros and The Cure. The band have released a number of self-produced DIY EPs and are currently busy recording their debut album for release in September 2009.
Song To Help Get Through Winter
Joanna Newsom: 'Emily'
"I was listening to ‘Ys’ constantly last winter, so whenever I hear this track makes me think of Christmas and being snowed in. The combination of her lyrics (“There is a rusty light on the pines tonight”) and Van Dyke Parks’ arrangement is beautiful."
Song To Nurse A Hangover
The National: 'The Geese Of Beverly Road'
“"Our hands are covered in cake, but swear we didn’t have any”. For me this line perfectly sums up the complete confusion of waking up after a night out and finding out you’ve got no money left and that there’s a piece of toast in your shoe. The clarinet at the beginning is also quite soothing..."
Song To Wake You From A Coma
The Flaming Lips: 'Race For The Prize'
"This song has the best start ever, so if anything was going to get me out of it this would be the one."
Song To Quit Your Job To
The Velvet Underground: 'Sweet Jane'
"“Some people they like to go out dancing, and others they have to work." This song always makes me feel completely free and Lou Reed’s delivery in this song makes me smile every time hear it, as I don’t think he was taking it very seriously."
Song To Sulk To After Being Dumped
Leonard Cohen: 'Famous Blue Raincoat'
""And you treated my woman to a flake of your life, and when she came back she was nobody's wife." I’m not sure if this would make me feel much happier, but hearing someone who’s usually as debonair as Leonard Cohen sounding so broken would perhaps give me some solace."
Song For Getting Ready To Go Out
The Pixies: 'Debaser'
"“Got me a movie oh-oh-oh-oh-oh!”. It’s just awesome."
