Blackhole's Mixtape

Blackhole release their debut album ‘Dead Hearts’ on 7th September 2009 on Search And Destroy Records, preceded by the ‘Scared To Change’ single on 31st August. To celebrate, the band have picked out their favourite songs for us!

'Recording our debut album was an amazing experience,' smiles Blackhole frontman Richard Carter. 'Working with both Colin (Richardson - Slipknot, Machine Head, Fear Factory producer/mixer) and with Jeff and Ginge (Bullet For My Valentine)... to have these people be into what we are doing enough to want to work with us gave us a lot of confidence.' The guitarist chips back in, 'It taught us a lot of lessons about recording, and the professional attitude that you have to maintain throughout. Jeff and Ginge were great to work with and really captured the best of our sound in the studio. I honestly don't think that we could have written and recorded a better album."

Song For Getting Ready To Go Out
Every Time I Die: 'We’rewolf'
"Good friends of ours, and this track never fails to get me in the mood for going out. See the video for further proof that this is a tune made for partying."

Song To Go To Sleep To
Sigur Rós: 'Með Suð Í Eyrum'
"One of my favourite bands. I could have picked any song by them really, but this track is one of their best."

Song For A Summer Day
Lily Allen: 'Smile'
"One of those songs that is super catchy, easy to sing along to, and even if it pissing it down outside, it still feels like summer when you hear it."

Song To Sing In The Shower
Oasis: 'Some Might Say'
"Another favourite band, and this was the first album I ever bought. Since then I’ve listened to it so often that I know all the lyrics, but I still suck at singing – I guess the shower is for people who can’t sing but know nobody will hear it."

Song To Quit Your Job To
Converge: 'Homewrecker'

"So you’ve quit your job, you’re pissed off, you hate everything and you want to listen to something that is going to match your mood – Converge will do the trick every single time."

Song To Sulk To After Being Dumped
The Suicide File: 'Some Mistakes You Never Stop Paying For'
"Being bitter isn’t all bad, and this song sums that up well. It also hits the nail on the head when it comes to hating on your ex."

Song To Get You On The Dancefloor
Friendly Fires: 'Jump In The Pool'
"Collectively, this was one of the band’s favourite albums of the last year or so. The percussion is amazing on this track and you can’t help but nod your head along."

Song For A Road Trip
Mogwai: 'Ratts Of The Capital'
"All of Mogwai’s songs seem to make a long drive go faster, and we often have them playing if we know we’re going to be stuck in the van for a while."
