Marina & The Diamonds: 'Mowgli’s Walk'
2009 has been undeniably the year where female-fronted bands have made their mark on the music scene, with artists like Florence & The Machine, La Roux and Ladyhawke to name a few all taking the baton to the male-fronted old guard.
Taking this into account, it would seem there is no better time than this for another female rock star to take up the mantle to lead us through 2010. That new addition to the grrrl rock trend is Greek/Welsh singer songwriter Marina and The Diamonds. Like Florence et al, she inhabits the same fantastical world, but she is unique in her lyricism and her understanding of what makes a chorus.
These talents are on show for all to see on the weird and wonderful 'Mowgli’s Road', which draws you into its musical landscape with its playful verses and wacky wordplay and killer melody.
Marina has just headed an NME Radar tour and it seems that, if she continues dreaming up dark pop classics in this manner, 2010 should be all hers for the taking.
