Good Shoes: 'Under Control'

'Under Control' is the first single to be taken from Good Shoes’ forthcoming album 'No Hope, No Future', the eagerly awaited follow-up to their 2007 debut album, 'Think Before You Speak'.

That album was packed full of spindly, angular guitar pop of the sort made by everyone from Bloc Party to The Futureheads and, on the evidence of this latest release, the band have not ventured too far away from their signature sound with this new record.

Full of frantic, distorted guitar riffs, energetic off-the-beat drumming and breathless half-sung, half-shouted vocals, 'Under Control' is undoubtedly bursting with life and dynamism, but the lack of invention and any sense of a distinct personality is disappointing. This is solid, well-crafted stuff but wholly generic - more borrowed shoes than good shoes.
