Holly Miranda: ‘Forest Green Oh Forest Green’
Having accompanied The XX on a tour around Europe, Holly Miranda should have no problem gaining exposure.
Her unique sound is at once epically multilayered and cosily intimate. Whether or not ‘Forest Green Oh Forest Green’ is self-consciously quirky is a moot point; the title alone acts as prosecution. Throw in some acoustic guitars, trumpets, harmonising, percussion off a Christmas carol and reverb all over, and Holly Miranda may as well be Larry Flint.
But the truly quirky thing here is that it all somehow works. Though the likelihood often seems possible, Dave Sitek’s production doesn’t overpower Miranda’s seamless melody, resulting in a truly individual debut single. An intriguing introduction to a fresh new artist.
