And The Winner Is: 'United We Fall, Divided We Stand'

Sometimes a demo just falls into the right hands. Anyone with the audacity and ambition to craft music of mastodonic power, a sound of colossal capacity, deserves high praise indeed.

Okay, so we’ve already got Explosions In The Sky, Mogwai et al, with God Speed! You Black Emperor preceding them, but these are the bands who foster an incomparable bond between band, music, and listener.

Richard Dunford, aka And The Winner Is, is the bedroom-based one man show replicating these apocalyptic walls of sound and tumultuous breakdowns. ‘Hit Me Like They Do In The Movies’ effortlessly dips in waves and troughs of guitar and piano, but it’s ‘Xeven’, a six minute monster of writhing, majestic instrumentation, that signifies Dunford’s ear for the epic. Capturing all the slow burning intensity of Explosions…, 'United We Fall, Divided We Stand' demands the studio production it deserves.
