Katie Melua: 'Concert Under The Sea'
This film is a document of “world superstar” Katie Melua’s record-breaking and mind-boggling underwater concert, which took place 303 metres beneath the surface of the North Sea off the coast of Norway in October 2006.
Revealing the extensive planning involved in transporting the necessary equipment so deep underwater, and the thoughts of Katie herself as the reality of the dream begins to dawn upon her, this film does leave you wondering ‘Why bother?’ - unless the original idea was simply to leave Melua and her band at the bottom of the ocean. It turns out that the concert was organised to help a gas company celebrate the 10th anniversary of the construction of the largest man-made structure ever moved on Earth. Continuing the watery theme, the DVD also features a shorter film of Katie and her band battling torrential rains and attempting to complete a sound check in the middle of a tropical storm in Tampa, Florida. Of the two, I preferred the latter.
Extras: Interview with Katie Melua, promo videos for ‘It’s Only Pain’ and ‘Shy Boy’, and ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ feature.
Released by Dramatico Entertainment on 28th May 2007.
