Bonobo (Brighton)
One of Brighton's favourite down tempo pioneer's came home Friday night as Simon Green and friends chilled and distilled the tranquil Concorde club scene. Green, or his better known project Bonobo, treated the crowd to a set list heavily borrowing from both 'Dial "M" for Monkey' and his successful 2006 release 'Days to Come'.
Following this new trend of electronic acts to play live with full backing bands, Green has forged Bonobo into a shimmering and dazzling live tour-de-force. The result of which brings louder and more intense conversions of delicate song's like 'Ketto' and 'Recurring' which have the ability to transform our sense of place and leave us feeling like we are floating on the calm seas of a psychedelic ocean.
Additionally, the presence of Bajka's live saccharine vocals helps propel Bonobo from being largely just this 'living room band' to one that proves it can captivate the hearts and minds of a much larger group of people. Bonobo are the perfect act for those marginalized people; those of a faint heart. Instead of driving pulses upwards, they wind them down to the sleepy echelons of musical delight. Not only did Bonobo kick start my sleepy weekend, but they also wrapped me in the warmth that saw me home safely.
