Mika: 'Live In Cartoon Motion'
Lebanese-born Mika is undoubtedly the surprise musical package of 2007 - inspired by Nirvana apparently ('Heart Shaped Box' was the first song to affect him) with more than a touch of Freddie Mercury tinging his vocal style.
His smash 'Grace Kelly' is currently vying for a place on many end of year lists and the upbeat hit album ('Life In Cartoon Motion') has sold by the bucket load, so it is no surprise that a live DVD has been released to coincide with his biggest UK tour to date.
Unfortunately, with the last London dates postponed due to ill-health, the document of a late June show in Paris at the L'Olympia with 4,000 fans quite literally going mad for his every effortless falsetto is quite enough to convert even the most ardent Mika-hater of the man's redoubtable skills. Amply filled with many other live moments, videos and a 50 minute documentary on the trials and tribulations of touring this is undoubted value for money. Maybe the encores with the band dressed in animal costumes performing sex acts (to the incredible yet catchily annoying 'Lollipop') is just one step too far though.
Extras: A Long Way From Home (documentary), five full videos, Later With Jools Holland, Live At Ronnie Scotts, and animations.
Released 12th November 2007 by Universal Music.
Written by Simon Cole.
