Parka: 'Disco Dancer'
Currently at that frustrating stage of being support for some of indie’s most up-and-coming bands (Foals, The Young Knives), Scottish five-piece Parka attempt to break away with the re-release of ‘Disco Dancer’.
It doesn’t have the initial draw one now expects from happy-go-lucky new releases, but it does have a very endearing magnetic energy, some of the most light-hearted lyrics of the century and a catchy two-word chorus - everything you need for a bit of jumping round your living room.
Lead singer Matt Thompson displays a keen vocal talent, seemingly emerging from a time when punk was cool, and combined with an infectious guitar hook, it makes ‘Disco Dancer’ a step in the right direction for indie stardom.
Released on 7th January 2008 by Jeepster.
