Kinzli: 'Going Just To Be Going'
This is an interesting self-released album that will doubtless garner some major label attention for Kinzli. Whilst being noticeably easy on the ear, this is an intriguing record, mixing in influences as diverse as country twang and jazzy horns, not too mention a song sang in Spanish!
Considering Kinzli was born in South Korea but raised by foster parents in the hotbed of country music, Nashville in Tennessee, before relocating to London (where this album was recorded), it is no wonder that this record is so eclectic. The one consistent sound is Kinzli’s wonderful voice, that displays her fantastic song-writing ability and her seeming ability to be comfortable singing in any number of styles.
If there's one criticism it is that this album is potentially almost too varied. It seems to want to cover so much ground and this could be read by a cynic as an attempt to show any major label that her versatility will make a long career a probability and therefore the chance for them to make more money off the general fly-by-night divas who are around now. That said, this record really is a strong introduction to a major new talent.
