Boogaloo Stu: 'Enough About You... Let's Talk About Me'
For those of you that don't live in Brighton (and if you don't then we send our commiserations), Boogaloo Stu might need a bit of an introduction. Full-time DJ, scenester and, in his own words, 'day glo dandy', he's all over Britain's favourite city by the sea like the letters through a stick of rock.
A legend in his own lunchtime, he spends his existence either scaring students at notorious club night Dynamite Boogaloo or making (and playing) his own independent releases. Like its predecessor 'The Glambassador', this second solo effort is a record that wears its influences on its sleeve, mashing up melodic electro and classic pop hooks with a cabaret sensibility that's very Brighton.
If you're bored of electro, or just not man enough to enjoy a nice bit of camp, then don't bother. However, fans who appreciate a dose of helium-fuelled kitsch glitter stomp will love the Human League lilt of this album. File away under "music to put on a nice sequinned dress and do poppers to" at once.
Released on 21st January 2008 by Telefunk Records.
