Adam & Joe - Festival survival guide

With festival season in full swing, we asked Joe Cornish, of BBC 6 Music's Adam & Joe, for his festival survival tips.

What things would you recommend taking to festivals?

Massive tee-pee, selection of folding garden chairs, large barbecue and gazebo, Moroccan rugs, bean bags, wind chimes, bongos, medieval flags, guitars, drugs, booze, toilet paper, dog, crisps, toddlers.

And what things should be left behind?

Floor cleaning equipment, motor-boat, entire book collection, filing cabinets, shelving, staplers/stationary/office equipment, flat screen TV, ream of A4 paper, large dining room table, sofa, hoover, lawnmower.

What's your best festival memory?

The best has to be the Fuji Rock Festival in Japan. Everyone put their litter in the bins, there was none on the ground. No-one relieved themselves anywhere but the loos, outside which orderly queues formed. Even right in front of the stage, people kept at least a meter of free space between them.

And your worst festival experience?

The worst is Glastonbury in the rain. Walking down the main drag was like walking down pre-historical Oxford Street. Like being transported through time to a mass exodus of bog people.

Who is the best act that you've seen play at a festival?

Euros Childs at the Green Man. Usually a modest mid afternoon, set but always amazing. ‘First Time I Saw You’ sounds especially beautiful echoing round a Welsh valley.

Any other advice for surviving this summer’s festivals?

When attending Glastonbury, try and be employed by the BBC as some kind of presenter. Stay in nearby hotel, get a laminate to access VIP catering and toilets. Buy waterproof trousers. Make sure your wellies fit and do not take three friends to pull off.

Adam & Joe's 24-track album, Adam & Joe’s Song Wars Volume One, is available now exclusively through iTunes. Song Wars, which is the brainchild of Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish, is a popular and much loved feature of their Saturday morning show which airs on BBC 6 Music.
