Suzanne Vega: ‘Ludlow Street’
Suzanne Vega returns after a six year hiatus with this, the lead single of her new album 'Beauty And Crime'. Listening to 'Ludlow Street', it is evident that Vega has dispensed with the quirky charm of songs like 'Tom’s Diner', replacing the charm with a more considered and mature style.
A string and synth-laden melancholic elegy to her hometown of New York City, the new single is very much a post-9/11 song. The tragedy that befell the city leads Vega to conclude that ‘love is all that matters’. Slightly trite perhaps, but heartfelt and convincing nonetheless, and as ever her vocals are crisp and elegant.
Released on 15th October 2007 by EMI.
