Passenger: ‘Things You’ve Never Done’
’Things You’ve Never Done’ is delicate, introspective and comes with a poignant message of embracing the day and living without regret. Andrew Phillips demonstrates an ear for some composed arrangement and Mike Rosenberg’s easy going delivery ensure it all ebbs and flows.
So why do I hate this? From the pretentious operatic sample, pensive, nail-dragging James Blunt vocal, and its sickly, over-dramatised American teen sitcom in waiting smugness, ‘Things You’ve Never Done’ has V Festival written all over it. Sure it’s observant, lushly arranged and sensitive, but it instils nothing other than a worryingly blazing hatred. With Rosenberg increasingly nasal whine imploring you to ‘curse yourself for the things you’ve never done’, I’m fucking cursing now.
