Kyte: ‘Two Stars, Two Sparks’ EP

This beautifully transcendent EP of swooning, spectral post-rock is Leicester band Kyte’s second release following their self-titled debut mini-album released in February.

For such a young band, 'Two Stars...' sounds remarkably fully formed and mature – the hallmark of a band with ambition and a coherent vision in complete control of their sound.

'Eyes Lose Their Fire' is a sublime piece of ambient post-rock, full of swelling guitars and crashing drums, augmented by sparkling glockenspiel and hints of music boxes – think Explosions In The Sky with the addition of an enchantingly fragile, heartbroken vocal. 'Solsbury Hill' is a bewitching Peter Gabriel cover full of melancholic backwards tape loops and waves of elegant percussion reminiscent of Four Tet. 'Bridges In The Sky' has a slightly harder, Krautrock edge to it, dominated as it is by a pounding drum machine, but it is no less effective for that. 'Lights Outside Here' is the longest song on the EP and is evocative of Boards Of Canada in its use of mood changes and tonal shifts.

With 'Two Stars Two Sparks', Kyte have crafted an EP of majestic and ethereal beauty.
