Fight Like Apes: ‘Jake Summers’
Fight Like Apes may be a familiar name to those who attended the summer's UK festivals, but for the uneducated amongst us it should not be too long before we know exactly who they are.
Quirky, punchy, infuriatingly catchy and with sniggersome and clever lyrics, Fight Like Apes will grind themselves into your conscience.
‘Jake Summers’ is an homage to the bad boy rock ‘n’ roller from 90s cult TV show California Dreams, but in all honesty it doesn’t matter who it is about really, what matters is that its annoyingly good. There is just such an appeal to the track that you cannot put your finger on - saccharine sweet but with an edge that takes the track off kilter.
Fight Like Apes blend elements of The Pixies with the likes of The Ting Tings and the result is a hyperactive clever pop anthem. Backed up with 'Corey Pop' and 'Snore Bore Whore (Spherical Mix)', it is a bizarre package, but a package that works.
Released on 20th October 2008 by Modal Citizen Records.
