Jedward interview

Seven months after finishing fifth on The X Factor in 2009, Jedward, the duo who caused a national sensation with their gravity defying quiffs and lively performances, unveil their debut album.

> Buy the album.

Released on 26th July 2010, ‘Planet Jedward’ includes their Number 2 hit 'Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)' and their new single ‘All The Small Things’, first made famous by Blink 182. LastBroadcast caught up with the boys to find out more...

Where are you at the moment?

Edward: “We’re in Ireland, it’s crazy, we’re doing two signings a day, meeting all the fans. The album, ‘Planet Jedward’, is out next week, 26th July. I’ve just been listening to Britney Spears, John wants to go to the toilet. We’ve had no time off since New Year. We’re designing our new outfits. You can have an idea of what you want something to look like, but sometimes they don’t get what we want. We find it’s best to take control of everything.”

Are you excited about the album being released next week?

Edward: “Yeah, go buy it now!”

Were there any songs you considered that didn’t make it onto the final album?

Edward: “Yeah, Britney Spears, we wanted to do ‘Baby One More Time’, but we couldn’t get clearance for some songs. This album’s more of a summer album though, we just wanted to get it out. We’ve got loads of people wanting to write us songs though. We’ve been talking to Aaron Carter, he’s writing songs for us right now. We need to get the hell out to America! I wanted to go this week, but apparently we can’t. Do you want to speak to John? Here’s John…”

Hey John...

Edward: “Oh no, this is Edward, John’s looking at some magazines.”

What advice would you give to this year’s new X Factor contestants?

Edward: “We hope everyone’s good this year. I think to succeed beyond The X Factor you need to build your own dedicated fanbase. We’ve got tributes acts and everything, it’s weird, why do we have tribute acts?! Our fans are crazy, full on berserk. Not in a mean way, they just know everything we’re doing. They give us presents like watches and sunglasses and clothes. They send us huge letters too, we’ve got them all in scrapbooks.”

You’ve got your own TV show coming up, what’s it about?

Edward: “Yeah, on ITV, it’ll be coming out the same time as The X Factor. We’re still finishing it, it’s called Planet Jedward. It’s a real opportunity to show people a different side to us, we’re not always crazy, sometimes we do other things. We’ve got a new show in Ireland too, I think that’s going to be called Jedication. Do you want to speak to John? Here’s John…”

Hi John, how are you?

John: “Really good, the album’s out on July 26th, buy it! There’s loads of promotional people here, it’s weird. Is this on the radio? Is this live?”

No, don’t worry. Will you be watching the new series of The X Factor next month?

John: “I hope we’ll be watching, we might be too busy though, but we’ll just watch it on YouTube.”

What’s your favourite song on the album?

John: “Our new single, ‘All The Small Things’. Sorry, I’ve got to go to the toilet so bad. Here’s Edward…”

Edward: “Hey! Oh no, my hair looks like an actual monster person.”

How often do you get your hair cut?

Edward: “Not that often, a lot of hairdressers are too scared to touch it. I think they get worried they’d mess it up.”

How do you keep it in place?

Edward: “You put a load of mousse in at the roots, then blow it up, then there’s all the wax and stuff. A lot of work goes into it so that it doesn’t flop down when it gets sweaty. I have to go now, bye!”
