New Beginnings

Saturday 1st May 2010

Adam faces a terrifying ordeal at gunpoint as he's held hostage in a farmhouse. Meanwhile, Zoe must choose between Jordan and Matt, while a face from the past makes a surprise return.

On what would have been Harry's first birthday, Adam and Lyn, who has been wounded, are being held at gunpoint by Lyn's bitter ex-husband, Vince. Feeling that he has nothing left to lose, Adam makes an agreement with Vince – it's his life for Lyn's. After she is released and taken to hospital, Adam stays to face his fate.

Although some kind words from paramedic Polly and a heart-to-heart with Vince persuade Adam that he may have something to live for after all, Vince reveals that he has rigged the farmhouse to explode when the heating clicks on. All Adam can do is hope to persuade Vince to get them out before the house goes up in flames.

Elsewhere, after spending the night with Jordan, Zoe is forced to reassess what she wants from life. Will the headstrong medic accept the proposal of the kind and steady Dr Matt, or will she take a chance on her old flame and sparring partner Jordan? Following her humiliating rejection by Adam and the traumatic events of the day, Alice takes decisive action as a familiar face returns to Holby to settle some unfinished business...

A Better Past

Saturday 8th May 2010

It's a day of reckoning for May and Adam as they are brought face to face with the past. May's guilt over betraying, and then deserting, Yuki is starting to overwhelm her and haunts her every moment. When Yuki is finally found, he has been living rough and is dehydrated and too disoriented to communicate. His friends can only watch helplessly. May then opens an envelope of white powder, sparking a suspected anthrax alert which causes the ED to be shut down.

Trapped in resus is Jimmy, a seven-year-old boy who has been hit by a car. The driver is Tina, a woman who is determined to avenge the death of her own daughter who was murdered as a schoolgirl by Jimmy's mother, Anna. Thrown into turmoil, Anna's husband rejects her but Anna is desperate for forgiveness. When Jimmy takes a turn for the worst, only Tina holds the key to his survival.

Also trapped in the lockdown, May looks on as Yuki lies prone and uncommunicative. Faced with the human results of her betrayal, she finally finds the courage to own up to her duplicity – but she may have alienated Yuki, and everyone else, for good.

Meanwhile, Adam's grief resurfaces and his trauma at Harry's death is brought into sharp focus. And it looks as though Charlie might become a grandparent after all.

Russian Endings

Saturday 15th May 2010

There's new blood in the Emergency Department as Lucy Gaskell joins the cast of the medical drama as staff nurse Kirsty Clements. Ruffling feathers, she makes an instant impression – and not necessarily a good one.

It's Kirsty's first day in the ED, but her forceful attitude could be her undoing. Spying Ruth with a patient, Kirsty publicly informs her that he's an addict, after morphine. Ruth is less than impressed to be shown up by the new girl. Jay starts the rumour mill, telling everyone Kirsty left her last job under a cloud. She certainly doesn't impress Tess by later fighting with a patient. It looks as though her stay at the ED could very short...

Jeff and Dixie find Stewart distraught and covered in blood. Investigating a noise in Stewart's basement, Jeff discovers teenager Jamie tied up. Surprisingly, it's only Kirsty who manages to get through to Stewart. He reveals that he's anxious about "Bruce". But when Jay examines Jamie he finds chemical burns – has Stewart tortured his captive?

Meanwhile, Jordan has had a blackout. He gets to work late, dismissing Zoe's questions about his head wound. Henry and Jordan tell hospital board member Robert that the ED needs his funding, but Robert coolly explains that they have to prove they deserve it first. Increasingly pregnant Shona is also back and asking for money, but Charlie is deeply sceptical – especially when he finds a bottle of vodka in her bag. Yuki is finally back at work, but can he cope when a patient he's treating dies?

Mum's The Word

Saturday 22nd May 2010

Lenny's cockiness knows no bounds as he thinks the Fellowship is in the bag. However, he's brought back down to Earth with a bump when his patient dies of a mysterious virus. With Yuki ruling himself out of Fellowship contention, Lenny's convinced it is his. Swaggering around the ED, his confidence is soaring until one of his patients is diagnosed with a degenerative disease and another dies suddenly and inexplicably. Could this be another incidence of the mysterious Cryptococcsis virus? Devastated and perplexed, Lenny is determined to get to the bottom of the cause and prove himself again.

Elsewhere, Ruth uses her surgical training to provide hope for a terminal patient. Knowing full well she'll only make an enemy of an eminent surgeon, she pesters him unflaggingly until he finally concedes to her view.

Meanwhile, Jordan is still in high spirits and fixated on the idea of having children. Zoe desperately tries to distract him with anything other than the truth – that she can't have children. When told a medical procedure could give her a one-in-four chance of being able to conceive, Zoe dismisses the idea. She's doctor material, not a mother. But her heart is set on Jordan...
