Going Solo

Saturday 3rd July 2010

Lenny is determined to track down the last of the drugs trial patients – troubled teen Johnny – and save him from the Crypto virus. After causing an explosion in an office block, wayward Johnny is brought into the ED with his long-suffering mother, Louise, and Lenny leaps on the case. Despite warnings from his colleagues, Lenny performs a complex life-saving procedure unsupervised, much to Jordan's disapproval. But once Johnny's condition has stabilised, can Louise and the ED team get to the bottom of his behavioural problems?

Meanwhile, middle-aged Mick (played by John McArdle) is brought into the ED after having a nasty fall and seizures. He has a pacemaker, a secret he's keen to keep from his lively young wife, Emma. Could his determination to keep up with his young partner be compromising his health? And just what is causing those seizures?

Charlie makes yet another attempt to reform Shona but, when faced with temptation, Shona buckles and steals from a patient. At his wit's end, Charlie decides to get tough with the teen. Alerting the police, he watches sadly as she's taken away in handcuffs.

Elsewhere, unaware that Zoe is reacting badly to the fertility treatment, Jordan assumes she's suffering from morning sickness. When Zoe's pregnancy test comes back negative, she tries to tell Jordan the truth but he's so excited he won't let her finish. Unable to crush his joy, Zoe keeps quiet. But how long can she keep up the pretence?

After lying to Jordan that she is pregnant, Zoe continues her fertility injections in a desperate attempt to conceive before he finds out. But after treating an assault victim she realises the destructive power of lies and breaks off her relationship with Jordan, without actually admitting the truth. Jordan won't be put off that easily; dismissing her outburst as hormones, he asks a very surprising question...

Meanwhile, Lenny is determined to find evidence of Robert and the Ludlow Foundation's complicity in the drugs trial cover-up and enlists a reluctant Yuki to help him break into Robert's house. Finding the evidence they need, the pair narrowly escape being caught but their actions cause a trail of destruction. Afterwards Yuki turns on Lenny, angry he cares more about the evidence than their friendship. Will Lenny get the evidence he needs to confront Jordan and can his friendship with Yuki withstand this test?

After having Shona arrested for theft, Charlie misses her trial; but the teenager thanks him for his intervention, and seems genuinely transformed. But later, Charlie is stunned to discover an old friend in resuscitation, just as she starts crashing...

The Enemy Within

Saturday 31st July 2010

It's interview day for the JAFA Fellowship and Lenny is highly confident. However, he's furious to discover the Ludlow Foundation is refusing to compensate the Crypto virus victims, so decides to take the fight upstairs, until Jordan warns him that Robert is on the interview panel. After holding his own in the interview, Lenny finds his trust shattered when a patient disappoints him. The young medic has to decide whether to stick to his guns or succumb to Robert's offer to relinquish the proof of the cover-up in order to win the Fellowship.

Meanwhile, Zoe is both thrilled and perturbed to see Jordan so happy about her supposed pregnancy and desperately continues with her fertility treatment, despite the fact that it is making her unwell. She has dizzy spells throughout the day and eventually faints at work. Revived by a concerned Jordan, Zoe realises she's running out of time but can't see how to tell Jordan without ruining everything.

Arrogant DJ D-Ray is admitted to the ED with a skin complaint. Zoe discovers that he has vitiligo and that he's been having copious sun-bed sessions to cover up his whitening skin. Warning him that he could have the early stages of skin cancer, Zoe refers him to a specialist but, arrogantly, he tears the referral up in her face. When D-Ray's girlfriend, Leanne, arrives at the ED, D-Ray must decide whether to tell her the truth. But is their relationship only skin deep?

Later, Charlie learns that Megan is dying and is in a great deal of pain. She is desperate and asks Charlie to help her. Is it too much for Charlie and his conscience, though?
