Into The Fog
Saturday 2nd October 2010
It's all hands on deck when the Emergency Department faces its cleanliness inspection and the team's first battle in their campaign to impress the powers that be. Unfortunately for Lenny he has his mind on other things – namely the gorgeous Chrissie – so he's late for work and neglecting his duties, incurring Jordan's wrath.
In preparation for the cleanliness inspection, Tess assigns the whole team cleaning duties. Everyone is even more nervous when they hear the inspector is the terrifying "Big Don". Lenny is late for work again after spending the night with Chrissie, so Jordan puts him in charge of cleaning resus. However, Lenny is distracted when Chrissie visits him at work. Not only does he forget to clean up resus, but he also loses Lorretta, an elderly Alzheimer's patient. Her husband Roy and daughter Helen are distraught. On top of that Lenny might have just lost them the bacteriology award...
Meanwhile, Adam and Kirsty come to blows when they disagree on how to handle an unco-operative patient who believes he's dead. Kirsty thinks that by playing up to his delusions is the answer, so she enlists Yuki and Mads to help out. Crucially, while treating him, Yuki discovers that Adam's diagnosis was wrong; has his insight saved the day?
For a moment, things seem to be on the up, until Holby receives more negative press regarding the day's events. Henry is furious – they must have a mole leaking information. Lenny is disturbed when he recognises the reporter's name.
Eliminate The Negative
Saturday 9th October 2010
Simone Lewis is brought back into the ED after breathing difficulties following a fall. When she explains the circumstances leading up to the fall, Kirsty suspects she has suffered a panic attack and suggests to Camille that Simone might be suffering hysterical paralysis. Camille is furious that Kirsty appears to be putting the blame on Simone and a nasty confrontation ensues. Can feisty Kirsty keep her cool under extreme provocation?
Lenny admits to Chrissie that he knows she's an undercover newspaper reporter but can he convince her to run a positive news story about the ED instead?
Parents at Holby College want to give Jeff a bravery award for going over and above the call of duty during the shooting. Jordan is delighted with the positive PR but Jeff is deeply unhappy about the attention and vents his frustration by beating up a patient who has been taunting him. Just what is troubling the normally placid paramedic?
Jordan is determined to change the public's perception of the ED and issues Holby City health check forms to give patients the opportunity to assess the staff. But the results aren't quite what he hopes for when the tea lady scores top marks!
Reasons Unknown
Saturday 16th October 2010
Jordan, Adam and Henry attend the memorial. Left alone for the day, Ruth is determined to prove she is adept at managing the department. When Devlan, the college gunman, is brought into the ED from prison, Ruth takes full responsibility for his treatment and orders that his handcuffs be removed. However, Ruth struggles to deal with him as he's not sorry for what he did and refuses to cooperate. Can Ruth get to the bottom of why he did what he did?
Kirsty is convinced that Simone is suffering from hysterical paralysis so wants to unlock her memories to help her recover the use of her legs. Against all orders, she takes Simone to the memorial. Simone is traumatised by the small amount she can remember and has to be taken back to the ED where she is confronted with Devlan. Distraught on hearing Devlan's voice, she manages to find the strength to stand up and run away. But will she finally recall what has happened?
Jeff is struggling to confront what happened on the day of the shooting. Dixie does her best to help him open up to her. Will Jeff finally admit to Dixie that his actions weren't as heroic as they were made out to be? Meanwhile, Adam and Kirsty go the pub and their attraction to one another is undeniable. But waiting at home for Kirsty is controlling husband Warren...
Employee Of The Week
Saturday 23rd October 2010
Ruth is determined to prove she's the perfect candidate for the role of Jordan's deputy. After attending a management training session at Jordan's request, she attempts to win over the staff by implementing an employee of the week scheme. Henry is delighted, but the gang think it's a terrible, divisive idea and cracks in their working relationships soon start to show. Despite the day's events, Jordan calls Ruth into his office at the end of the shift. Are her dreams of promotion about to come true?
Charlie is tired after a sleepless night looking after his baby grand-daughter Megan. To his horror, Megan is brought into the ED – Shona has abandoned her and isn't coming back. While Tess calls in an agency nurse to cover Charlie's shift, Charlie is frustrated to find the crèche is too busy and asks Mads to take care of her. But when a medical emergency calls Mads into resus, Megan is accidentally left in reception alone. When Charlie returns he's horrified to find that Megan has disappeared – and so has the patient with kleptomania he was previously treating.
Meanwhile, romance blossoms in the ED as Jay and Polly become closer. But Polly is frustrated that Jay doesn't seem to want their relationship to become public knowledge. And another relationship seems to be flourishing in secret as Charlie stumbles across a couple in a store cupboard that he really wishes he hadn't seen...
No Place Like Home
Saturday 30 October 2010
Jordan rallies the troops – they're due an inspection any time in the next two weeks and he hopes Tess's staff are up to scratch. Big Mac and Noel theorise with Mads that the inspector might take the form of a "mystery shopper" and Mads assumes that hypochondriac patient Alan must be the inspector so prioritises him at the expense of other patients.
Zoe is annoyed that Mads didn't keep an eye on her patient as requested but stands up to Jordan when he questions what went wrong. Mads feels she's failed but learns another important lesson when Zoe tells her if she wants to fit in, she must never admit to being in the wrong.
Kirsty is having trouble sleeping so she takes a sleeping tablet. But she has mistaken the time and, as soon as she takes it, she receives a phone call – she's late for work. Tess is furious and warns Kirsty that she might have to face a formal investigation. Struggling to stay awake and keep her mind on the job, Kirsty tricks Adam into prescribing Ritalin for a mystery patient. Kirsty takes it but, after her cocktail of drugs, she collapses in the shower.
Mads discovers her in the shower and she and Adam sneak her into a cubicle, away from the beady eyes of Tess. Adam is forced to shock her and, when she comes round, he tries to talk to her but she says she just needs to sleep. He commandeers the on-call room for her to have some rest.
Meanwhile Kirsty's tight-lipped husband, Warren, arrives at the hospital complaining that Kirsty is late home from work. Despite Adam's protests, Warren insists on driving Kirsty home. Kirsty gets into bed at home but Warren watches as she lies awake. She's exhausted but, for some reason, she just can't sleep...
