Saturday 6th June 2009

The paramedics are up against it in this week's episode of the medical drama, as Dixie informs them they are severely short-staffed. Jeff has just received divorce papers from his wife and his deep-seated worry and anxiety about losing touch with his children stays with him throughout what proves to be an exhausting shift.

Polly and Jeff race from one emergency to another and are repeatedly called out to help a comatose drunk, followed by an explosion in a student's hall of residence, an elderly woman who has suffered a stroke, a man with multiple head injuries and a jogger who runs into a lamp-post.

For Polly, the shift is a steep learning curve. By the end of it, she realises she needs to keep a modicum of distance from her patients. But, despite her mistakes along the way, her fellow paramedics bond with her and recognise her warmth and humanity. They also reassure her and comfort her, following an incident that could put her life in danger.


Saturday 13th June 2009

Ruth submits her application for the surgical training post and is on edge when Sarah Evans pops down to the Emergency Department to assess her performance, as the medical drama continues. Ruth's nervousness increases when she is given tickets to a surgeons' dinner that evening, and has to try to persuade Jay to go along as her date. When she plucks up the courage to ask him, Jay turns her down, only to change his mind later.

Near the end of the event, Jay flusters Ruth by introducing himself to Sarah as "Dr Faldren". He has been a hit with everyone, and Sarah comments on his likeability. As they leave, Jay tries to convince Ruth to stay out with him. Going against her instinct, she rejects him, reminding him that he is just a nurse to her. As ever, she is left alone.

Elsewhere, Adam is concerned when he sees Zoe and Jordan becoming closer and tries to persuade Jordan to tell Zoe the truth about his illness. Jordan puts a note in Zoe's pigeon-hole and thinks the deed is done, until he meets her later that evening and discovers that she hasn't read it. He decides to put the task off for another day. Also, Jessica is missing Lucas and Amelia and, in a bid to get them back, phones Maureen and tells her Sean is Harry's father.


Saturday 20th June 2009

Jeff's wife and children are moving to London and his only option is to apply for full custody, in this week's episode of the medical drama. He instructs his lawyer to do whatever she can. Later, while out on a shout, Jeff comes up against a fractured family which the mother, Gloria (played by guest star Gillian Taylforth), is trying to bring back together. Seeing the damage that can be done to kids by dysfunctional parents soon makes him reconsider his own actions.

Alice's mum, Julie, meanwhile, makes a nuisance of herself – producing an ever-growing list of guests to invite to the wedding. Tess is also trampling over Alice's desire for a small, intimate event by suggesting Alice wear her old wedding dress. Alice finally snaps and tells them both to butt out.

Elsewhere, Ruth and Jay have to work together in Resuscitation, despite the frosty end to their previous "date" at one of the surgeons' dinners. Working well and successfully, they decide to go to one more event in the campaign so Ruth can get the surgical rotation she wants so desperately. This time, Ruth finally lets her guard down and they become even closer.


Saturday 27th June 2009

At Jordan's flat, Zoe is excited about Rome, in this week's episode of the medical drama. But Jordan isn't feeling well and has a headache and is also distracted when a letter from his neurologist arrives. Later, while examining a patient, Jordan begins to have a seizure and Charlie calls a shocked Zoe to help. She tries to deal with Jordan in a professional manner, but finds it difficult to stop her emotions rising as the staff speculate as to what has caused his sudden collapse.

In his bedroom, meanwhile, Jay tenderly watches Ruth sleeping. As he takes a shower, however, Ruth wakes up, panics and rushes out – leaving Jay his payment for the previous evening's "date". As a half-naked Jay chases after Ruth, he is locked out of his house and has to be rescued by Jeff and Dixie.

Elsewhere, Adam is in the Emergency Department when Jessica arrives with Harry – the plan to reel in Sean has worked. Sean calls and has a ticket for Jessica to fly out to Saudi with Harry. Adam is horrified that Jessica would even consider going to Saudi, given that she has no legal rights there. But Jessica is desperate to see her children.
