Not Forgotten
Saturday 3rd October 2009
While Ruth and Jay decide to take their relationship further, Zoe realises she might have lost her chance with Jordan. As Ruth is unwilling to publicly acknowledge him, an upset Jay issues her with an ultimatum. Ruth busies herself with surgical training but accidentally scares her patient, Amir, with her diagnosis and feels the wrath of Sarah Evans.
Knowing she must resolve things with Amir, the pair strike a deal – he will make her look good if she lets him go home, as he doesn't want surgery. When it comes to the crunch, Amir falters and questions Ruth in front of Sarah. Pleased Amir is considering his options, Ruth explains and impresses Sarah. A happy Ruth later kisses Jay in public but, when they head home, Ruth realises she has forgotten to take some pills and worries she could be pregnant.
Meanwhile, Zoe faces up to the consequences of her actions and the wrath of Jordan. The F2s are disillusioned with Adam's management but, when they struggle and call on his help, he impresses them. Together, they agree to give Adam another chance.
Comfort Zone
Saturday 10th October 2009
Ruth makes an unsettling discovery, which could have important consequences for her career. And Jordan receives some unwelcome news about his future as a doctor. Rushing through her ward rounds with Sarah Evans, Ruth slips out to take a pregnancy test – which confirms her worst fears. On their rounds, Sarah advises Ruth that trying to make it as a female surgeon is hard and there can be no room for error. Ruth later goes to the pharmacy and collects a pill to terminate the pregnancy.
Elsewhere, a baby is brought into casualty with head injuries resulting from a fall with his sick mother, Hazel. Ruth impresses Sarah during surgery on the baby and, to Jay's pride, Sarah invites her to the surgeon's dinner. Torn between her ambition and her feelings, will Ruth take the pill?
Jordan's condition continues to improve but the news is not good about his future as a doctor. Frances believes he will be able to return to work, but only in an administrative capacity. Neglecting her work to see Jordan yet again, Zoe is confronted by a furious Adam. Hitting back, she reveals to a shocked ER team that Jordan is in recovery and that his tumour has been downgraded. Meanwhile, down-and-out Alistair yet again fakes symptoms to call out the paramedic team in the hope of seeing Polly.
Love Is A Sacrifice
Sunday 18th October 2009
Love is all around in this week's episode of Casualty as one relationship gets decidedly rocky while another steps up a gear. It's Ruth's birthday and Jay presents her with a necklace for their date at the surgeon's dinner. Ruth's happiness is short-lived when senior medic Sarah Evans warns her that Jay is bad news and that she'll think twice about recommending her for the surgical training post if she continues to see him.
Feeling unwell, Ruth cancels the date, but is confronted by Jay at the dinner. As Ruth leaves in embarrassment, she collapses, haemorrhaging.
Meanwhile, Adam has his hands full with the F2s. He won't allow them to treat patients unsupervised, but when Jessica and the F2s become trapped in resus by a distraught relative, Adam is forced to watch as they save a patient's life. Realising he must trust them more, Adam admits they did some good work. He thanks Jessica for her support and proposes they set a date for their wedding – New Year's Eve.
Not Wisely But Too Well
Saturday 24th October 2009
Taken into casualty, Ruth is mortified to have to be treated by her colleagues. She swears Tess to secrecy over the abortion pill, despite knowing that Jay is panic-stricken. When her condition stabilises, Ruth admits that she was pregnant and she and Jay share a tender moment. But when Sarah Evans tells Ruth that she must remain focused if she wants to work as a surgeon, Ruth has to make a decision between her career and her man.
When Tim arrives at hospital with his son, Neil, who has been injured in a boating incident, and stepson Ronan, the attention quickly turns to the unhurt Ronan when he starts coughing up blood. Ronan's mother, Jane, is desperate with worry as Ronan has previously had leukaemia. Tim has some explaining to do when it's revealed that both boys have measles and Jane discovers that Tim never had Neil immunised.
Meanwhile, Polly realises it's time to tell Alistair that they're friends and nothing more and Zoe finds out some information about her new boyfriend, Joel, which horrifies her. Finishing the relationship immediately, Zoe is shocked to learn that Joel has stolen the memory stick containing patients' data in order to bribe her into seeing him again. Could the feisty medic be heading for more hot water?
Regrets
Saturday 31st October 2009
Adam and Henry are furious when Zoe reveals she's lost a memory stick of confidential patient data. She's reluctant to explain how the data went missing – it was stolen by her much younger ex-boyfriend, Joel – but assures them she can retrieve it by the end of the day. Henry gives her until 4pm or she's fired and things look very bleak when Zoe totally mishandles the situation with Joel. Support, however, comes from an unexpected source when Jordan steps in to help out.
Adam, meanwhile, is under pressure – there are patients to treat, budgets to write and Zoe has disappeared. Jessica is disappointed when Adam declines to help with the children's Halloween party that night and the stressed medic is forced to choose between putting his family or work life first.
Jeff's suspicions about Alistair grow when he and Polly are called to a shout and find Alistair standing over an unconscious body at a factory. Jeff is forced to apologise when it turns out Alistair had nothing to do with the accident but warns him to stay away from Polly. Later that night, Polly is petrified to find that Alistair has broken into her flat with a carved pumpkin and a bottle of wine. She's even more terrified when he demands to know why she's cheating on him. A shaky Polly is forced to tell Alistair she loves him.
Back at the hospital, there's a mystery man in the department asking for change, cadging cigarettes and talking about God. Tess and Adam ask him to move on, but there may be more to him than meets the eye...
