Phil feels confident about his financial situation and tells Ben to write up a Christmas list. Amira, meanwhile, asks Masood if he can still afford to pay her rent. He says it's all under control, then makes a call to Janine asking for more taxi shifts.

Archie goes to the Vic and pressures Roxy and Ronnie to tell him what happened to Phil. He feigns concern, offering his financial assistance but fearing they, too, will get hurt, Roxy and Ronnie tell him he is not welcome. Meanwhile, Zainab overhears Masood on the phone to Janine, chasing work. She can see how tired he is and worries that his health will suffer just for the sake of a little extra money.

Janine tells Archie she's heard that Phil suddenly has money and is going to pay the loan sharks off. Janine thinks they are scuppered and Archie suspects Ian, asserting that they have to get him to sell them Phil's debt. Whitney, meanwhile, makes a phone call to the prison to arrange a visit with Tony, but ends up crying in the Square, as nobody will let her see him. Ryan finds her and tries to reason with her but she tells him he is just like everyone else and storms off.

Ian struggles to cope without Jane. With a little help from Lucy, however, he is determined to find her and bring her home. Elsewhere, Billy's festive cheer is on the wane as he faces stiff market competition from Mo, while Honey is reluctant to let him see his children over the Christmas period.

Billy is feeling rejected by the Mitchells and overwhelmed by Archie's generosity. Archie and Janine persuade him to keep quiet about the news he overheard. Meanwhile, Abi learns of Max's deceit to the residents of Albert Square. Understanding Max's desperation she tries her best to make amends.

Combining the Christmas lunch and Aunt Sal's 70th birthday, Ronnie and Roxy do their best to ease the Mitchells's financial burden. Aunt Sal provides some unexpected yet impressive entertainment. Meanwhile, Amira visits her father, Qadim, to inform him of her exciting news but doesn't get the reaction she expected.

Amira and Syed continue planning their wedding in earnest and think speculatively about their future. Christian looks at the happy couple longingly. Meanwhile, having been appointed director of the local nativity, Mo is having trouble controlling the children.

Ronnie and Roxy try to work out how to deal with Archie. The Mitchell family, however, do their best to reach compromises for Christmas. Jean, meanwhile, is excited at the prospect of Bradley and Stacey's return from their holiday.

Under pressure from Phil, Ian visits Archie and tries desperately to make amends for the mistakes he has made. Meanwhile, Archie deliberates over his options. Peggy's unfortunate situation, meanwhile, leads her to Pat, who offers words of encouragement and support which have an inspiring effect on Peggy.

Overcrowding at Pat's house creates tension between Ricky and Bianca, in this visit to Walford. Ricky, however, reminds the family that his stay was only ever meant to be temporary, but Bianca is reluctant for him to leave. Elsewhere, Christian takes matters into his own hands and makes dramatic plans – which, in turn, leave Syed in a state of indecision.

Janine and Archie have an uneasy start to Christmas day as both their families reject their offers of company. Archie later has an unusual Christmas gift for Janine. Max and Abi, meanwhile, celebrate their Christmas by curling up on the sofa. Max attempts to clarify the family situation to a confused and melancholic Abi. Archie's previous manipulative conduct catches up with him as he receives numerous visitors. One person in particular is seeking revenge and lays his evil ways to rest for ever...

During the lead up to the wedding, all eyes are on Syed and Amira. Syed proves a hit on the dance floor, while Amira's style is widely applauded. Shirley and Phil, meanwhile, come to an arrangement that is mutually beneficial for both their futures.
