When Michael learns of Mark's resignation he accepts that Vanessa must go, but he's determined to allow her to exit with dignity. His plan backfires when Vanessa makes Michael look a fool in a board meeting, before she leaves Holby for a new job.
Joseph is determined to make things right. He apologises to Linden and lets Faye move back into their flat. When he discovers that Linden is due to help Faye move back in, he demands that she explain why she left him. After some home truths, Joseph falls into the arms of one of his patient's relatives. Meanwhile, Oliver is hungover and desperate for an easy ride. Holby Care seems like a perfect remedy – until Sacha arrives, determined to annoy him.

Jac is determined to stay unaffected by her mother, Paula's, situation, in the 500th episode of the medical drama. But when Paula deteriorates, Jac is forced to admit to Michael and Joseph that she's the mother who deserted her. Jac decides to offer Paula a kidney.
When Chrissie goes into early labour, her baby boy is delivered by emergency C-section. Chrissie finally admits to Mark that Sacha is the father. Meanwhile, Faye is thrown by a letter reminding her to choose an inscription for Archie's gravestone.

Chrissie tries to embrace Sacha's family – his two daughters and his larger-than-life mother, Esther – but finds it all too much when Esther starts talking about wedding plans. She tells Sacha he will always be a part of baby Daniel's life, but they will never be a family.
On the day of Jac and Paula's kidney transplant, Jac tries to stop her birthday becoming public knowledge. When Paula hits a complication in theatre, Michael, Ric and Joseph battle to save her. After the operation, Paula's memory is jogged by Donna. And Jac celebrates her birthday with her mum for the first time in over 20 years.
Michael feels humiliated when Cunningham announces he wants Michael to share the Director of Surgery responsibilities with Connie. Aghast, Michael tries to convince Cunningham to let him job share with Ric.

Jac is caring for Paula at her home when she suddenly goes missing. Jac fears for her mum’s survival so ignores her own pain and sets off to find her. Jac finds not only her mother, but also her grandfather and half-sister too. There is no love lost between these three and Jac realises her mother has conned her completely. After hurtful truths are told, Jac leaves – she will live the rest of her life without them.
Faye wants Linden more than ever, but when she finds out she’s pregnant, she must decide whether to be honest and risk losing him, or to keep the news secret.
