Donna tries to keep Derek's spirits up on the day of his operation, but ends up telling him some home truths when he jeopardises his only chance of survival.
Connie, meanwhile, distances herself from Jac to impress the Chairman but comes to learn that someone of Jac's nature is invaluable to her.
Elsewhere, after knocking over the Chairman while doing a dance to celebrate his latest assignment grade, Oliver wants to show everyone that he's not a fool. However, he ends up overstretching himself and has to rely on Daisha's help.
Tuesday 11th August 2009
It's the day of Elliot and Tara's pioneering heart operation, but Elliot has second thoughts about it and Joseph is left to step in. With the stress getting to Joseph, however, Elliot realises that he should perform the procedure in the best interests of the patient.
Donna, meanwhile, throws herself into her work on the ward – unable to face the reality that her dad might never regain consciousness. Tests soon reveal he isn't responding well and Donna has to say a tearful goodbye to her father as his life-support machine is turned off.
Elsewhere, Oliver finds himself in hot water with Chrissie after accidently sending her a rude e-mail which was meant for Penny. To apologise, he takes Chrissie for a drink. Several drinks later, a surprised Oliver kisses Chrissie and they go home together.

Elliot and Tara's patient, Lucy, is discharged after a successful operation and Jayne offers Tara an extension to her contract. The pair work on a case together and, as a result, Elliot tells Tara the truth about his wife, Gina's, death. Tara rethinks her future at Holby City.
Meanwhile, Oliver and Chrissie arrive at work after their night together. Mark confesses that he believes Chrissie is too old for Oliver.
Elsewhere, Connie is determined to secure her position as Ric's successor as director of surgery. She ignores Ric's instructions and operates on a patient who later has complications and dies.
