Find out what's coming up in this month's visits to Holby!
Tuesday 1st September 2009
Connie is gunning for the director of surgery job, but is shocked when Jayne uses the affair with John against her and persuades the board to give the top job to Michael. Jayne then hands in her resignation and leaves Holby for the last time.
Maria, meanwhile, tries to be a good friend to Donna as it's her first day back after the death of her father but, when news arrives that Sam won't be visiting her, she lets her friend down. After leaving, Maria is knocked down outside the hospital.
Elsewhere, Faye is delighted when it looks like Archie's adoption is going through but everything seems lost when Joseph finds evidence on her phone bill that she called Linden on the day of their wedding.
Tuesday 8th September 2009
Ric wants to save Maria's life following her accident but allows conflicts at work to get in the way. When he discovers that Michael is the new director of surgery, Ric accuses him of getting the job by unfair means but they pull together to save Maria.
As news of Maria's accident spreads, Oliver tries to make sure the shift continues to run as smoothly as possible, but emotions run high when the driver of a hit-and-run is admitted to Holby.
Jac, meanwhile, embraces the opportunity to run Darwin while Connie is away, although she didn't anticipate Joseph and Faye's relationship affecting her chances of impressing Michael.
Tuesday 15th September 2009
It's Chrissie's birthday and, despite Oliver wanting to put some distance between them, he invites her out for a drink to celebrate. After feeling ill all morning, however, Chrissie disappears to the toilet and takes a pregnancy test – which turns out to be positive. She rejects Oliver's offer of a drink and instead has dinner with her father.
Ric, meanwhile, discovers a fracture in Maria's spine and asks Penny to watch over her and keep her parents and Donna informed of her progress.
Maria later awakes, although spirits are dampened when Penny discovers she has no feeling in the lower part of her body – which Penny believes to be spinal shock, from which Maria will definitely recover. Donna struggles to comfort Maria and her parents and an angry Ric accuses Penny of being irresponsible in giving a patient false hope.
Tuesday 22nd September 2009
Michael is undermined by Connie and wants to assert his position as director of surgery. Ultimately, though, he is trumped by Connie as she delivers an amazing presentation and is given the green light for her robotic surgery project.
Meanwhile, Maria wants to be left alone to wallow following her prognosis, but she is encouraged by Donna to befriend another patient on the ward, and realises that she mustn't push away those closest to her.
Later, when Penny makes a good impression on the Acute Assessment Unit (AAU), she assumes she's going to be the Unit's next protégé, so is dismayed when she realises she has inadvertently secured her next rotation on Darwin, not AAU, by impressing Connie.
Tuesday 29th September 2009
Faye is determined to win over Joseph, but when Archie falls ill and is admitted to Holby her priorities shift. While Joseph confronts Linden about kissing Faye on Joseph and Faye's wedding day, Elliot takes control of Archie's treatment and saves his life in theatre.
It's Penny's first day on Darwin Ward and Jac is determined to prove that she's a team player – she wants to become Connie's right-hand woman on her robotics project. When a high-profile patient creates media interest, however, she fears that her whistle-blowing antics will come back and bite her.
Meanwhile, Ric tells Maria that her scans confirm what they had feared – she will be paralysed. There is only one option available to Maria – a very risky operation with a 50 per cent mortality rate. Maria wants to protect her parents from the reality of the situation, but learns that it's better to be honest and inclusive if she wants people's support.
