Elliot struggles to run Darwin without Connie and ends up pushing himself too hard. Penny runs an ECG and discovers Elliot is suffering from angina. Joseph is appointed acting consultant in lieu of Connie while Vanessa appoints a new locum registrar – Thandie Abebe-Griffin.
It's Archie's funeral. A tiny ceremony is held, attended only by Joseph, Faye and Faye's mother. Meanwhile, on receiving bad news about her divorce settlement, Judith struggles to stay professional on AAU (Acute Assessment Unit), fooling everyone, except Mark. On Maria's first day back, she struggles with Donna's lax attitude to work, but it's not until she upsets Donna that she is honest and tells her that, from now on, nursing comes first.

Linden's daughter, Holly, re-enters his life after her grandparents discover that she is leaving college and moving out. Oliver learns that, although Jac is a witch, she is also a brilliant surgeon and diagnostician and, for that, she deserves his respect. Meanwhile, Penny tries to heed Elliot's advice and give Thandie a wide berth, but actually she thinks Thandie is okay.

Joseph tries to find Archie's notes and leaves Thandie and Elliot to look after the ward. He does not have the authority to look for the notes but gets them anyway.
Meanwhile, Chrissie wants to make an effort with Judith but, when Vanessa reveals that Judith has jeopardised Mark's job, Chrissie lets Judith have it with both barrels. Oliver is desperate to prove that he can deal with whatever Jac throws at him, but realises that sometimes it's wise to accept help.

Penny wants to prove to Elliot that she is good with patients, but when he sees her bawl out Scott's girlfriend for dumping Scott, Elliot is not so convinced. Oliver is determined to work on a case with Jac and is delighted to spot something crucial that she has missed. Meanwhile Donna takes the opportunity of having Linden's daughter on work experience to dig for gossip...
