Monday 24th May 2010

It’s pandemonium in the immediate aftermath of Calvin’s shooting. Like a woman possessed, Jacqui rushes Theresa and Mercedes away from the scene of the crime. She’s got to keep them both quiet about the shooting; the place will be crawling with cops soon. Theresa’s in a state and Mercedes is only looking out for number one. Jacqui finds out the shocking news that Theresa’s pregnant with Calvin’s baby. She manages to stash the gun, and get Theresa away from the police. Mercedes, however, gets a grilling from DI Andrews and lets slip about her affair with Calvin. In doing so, has she put Malachy in the frame? When Myra gets Carmel home, Theresa is quick to get the widow alone. A guilty Theresa tells Carmel there’s something she should know…
Suzanne desperately tries to revive a dying Calvin, as Rhys calls an ambulance. Carmel can only watch hopelessly as the nurse tries to keep him alive, but it’s no use. Despite Myra’s prayers, Calvin dies. Darren does his best to comfort Suzanne, but it’s awkward given their brief affair earlier. Suzanne’s barely had a chance to let it all sink in when she finds out Josh is in hospital following another car accident. Neville is incredulous and stubbornly refuses to visit his son, leaving Rhys to go with Suzanne, but later on Neville surprises everyone by showing up. Has Josh been given a second chance to make things up to his dad?
Malachy is desperate to talk to Mercedes. It makes Kris suspicious…did they both have a hand in Calvin’s death? Kris puts it to his brother, who admits he didn’t kill Calvin, but wishes he had. Malachy has his own theories, though and confronts Mercedes. Did she kill Calvin? Mercedes says no. Malachy buys this for now, but does Mercedes know more than she’s letting on?
Lauren and Sasha are devastated as they watch their brother die. Gaz, fearful that the police will be after him, asks Lauren to run away. While he bargains with her, Leo starts to wonder if there’s something Sasha isn’t telling him. She starts to feel uneasy about the gun and Gaz and how it all ties into Calvin’s death. Lauren refuses to go with Gaz, choosing to stay with her family. Gaz is gutted and heads off. Then Lauren disappears and Sasha can’t find her…

Theresa stands poised to tell Carmel she killed Calvin. Jacqui races to stop her and barely gets there in time. She manages to get Theresa to keep quiet, but it’s clear she wants to confess. When Carmel is interviewed, Theresa freaks out. She thinks she ruined Carmel’s life. Jacqui, fearful of the net closing in on them, decides they need to get rid of their dresses – they’re evidence. Mercedes refuses to help them. She’s not going to cover up anyone else’s crimes. When Jacqui tries to stand up to her, Mercedes tells Theresa she’ll grass her up to stay out of prison, and warns Jacqui she should do the same. Is Jacqui in over her head?
Leo and Sasha start to fear for Lauren’s safety. When she finally gets home, Sasha tears into Lauren for leaving them all to worry. The family need to stick together to survive this. Leo wants them both to look to the future but Lauren’s distressed when she realises he still thinks she’s pregnant. She snaps and tells them there is no baby, but then backtracks and lies that she lost it. Leo and Sasha feel for her, but the lie is almost too much for Lauren. Away from her family she packs her bags and calls Gaz. Lauren is going to abandon her family and run away.
Carmel is broken-hearted as she reads the cards left over from the wedding. The police have taken her wedding dress for forensic examination, hoping it might give some clue to the killer’s identity. Myra does her best to assure Carmel that because of her, Calvin died a happy man. DI Andrews interviews Carmel. She struggles to keep a level head as she recalls the events that lead her there. She’s disturbed when DI Andrews hints that the culprit might be closer to home than she thinks…
Charlotte returns to Halls, having spent the night with Molly. She has no idea what’s gone on, and is a little disappointed it’s overshadowed her first bit of juicy gossip in ages. Tex suggests they go crash in on Josh and the gang get together to visit him. Josh is more than surprised to see he still has friends and they help him bust out of hospital back to Halls. Have the students found it in their hearts to forgive Josh?

Jacqui burns the bridesmaids dresses, hoping to get rid of any evidence to Calvin’s killing. Mercedes agrees to help – she can’t go against the family. Jacqui has to trust this as she sends Mercedes off to buy new dresses. To get the cash Mercedes tries to rob The Loft, but is interrupted by Carmel. Meanwhile Jacqui tries to get rid of the gun, but before she can, Malachy confronts her: Is she the killer? Or is she covering for Mercedes?
Gaz and Lauren are sleeping rough. They need money and fast. Leo and Sasha fret about Lauren’s safety. They worry she’s with Gaz and start to feel more certain that Gaz had a hand in Calvin’s death. Sasha decides to phone the police. When DI Andrews arrives at the Valentines’ they try and explain about Lauren going missing. Their answers put Gaz in the frame, but maybe Lauren too…Gaz thinks Lauren is better off going home. It’s him the police are after. Lauren’s just about to leave when they are both cornered by DI Andrews. Lauren watches helplessly as Gaz is dragged off into police custody. Do the police have their man?
Cheryl and Kris are convinced Mercedes is the killer. Malachy tries to tell them Mercedes had nothing to do with it, but does he really believe that? When Cheryl runs into Carmel she struggles with the affair secret and tries to run off. Carmel thinks Cheryl knows something about the killing and it doesn’t take much for Cheryl to blurt out the truth: Carmel’s stunned to hear Calvin was sleeping with her sister.

Mercedes is livid that Carmel now knows about the affair. Afraid that Myra is bound to find out about too, Mercedes tells Malachy they need to run away. But does Malachy trust her? Mercedes begs for Carmel not to tell Myra but puts her on the spot to make her confess in front of the family. Mercedes bargains for some time alone with Carmel and goes into how the affair started and why. When Mercedes tries to explain that Calvin loved Carmel, she accidentally admits she went to him on the morning of the wedding. Carmel’s livid that Mercedes tried one last time to seduce him, but starts to come around when she learns Calvin rejected the near-naked Mercedes. Carmel agrees not to move out, but something about Mercedes’ apology sits uneasy with Malachy. Was Mercedes apologising for the affair, or for killing Calvin? Now Malachy’s convinced Mercedes is the killer.
Elliot is in a panic about his upcoming exams. He throws a tantrum and Nancy isn’t up to restoring his confidence. He goes to Kris and Zak for support but they palm him off onto Archie. Archie tells Elliot about a new formula of designer drugs he’s been working on. He wants Elliot to test them.Elliot can’t help but to help himself to more of Archie’s pills. He goes into a panic when he uses up the entire stash and heads out to find Archie. Kris eventually finds Elliot in the street, practically deranged. He finds out Archie’s been supplying him and they are both horrified when they realise Elliot’s overdosing. Archie watches on helpless as his Elliot collapses. What have the drugs done to him?
Rhys hits Gilly below the belt. He’s still in love with Steph, isn’t he? Gilly’s horrified when Jem bumps into Steph and they decide to go for a drink together. Jem grills Steph about the time she declared she loved Gilly. Steph awkwardly tries to write it off as a drunken mistake. Jem agrees to put it behind them, but then admits to Rhys that it’s clear Steph’s still in love. Rhys lets slip the feeling might be mutual. Jem confronts Gilly over this and his face gives it away – it’s true. Jem breaks up with Gilly. He’s free to pursue Steph…but does she still want him?

Malachy wants to come out and accuse Mercedes of killing Calvin, but doesn’t have the nerve. He searches the salon for some kind of proof only to get caught by Mercedes and Jacqui. They get rid of him, before he chances upon the gun. Just as Jacqui is about to dump the murder weapon in the river, they spot policemen patrolling the village. Will they ever find the chance to get rid of it? DI Andrews comes to the McQueens and Mercedes is hauled off for further questioning. Malachy’s convinced Mercedes is guilty and now the police have her. Can he save his wife from prison? DI Andrews leans on Mercedes. He knows she’s keeping something from him, but the interview is interrupted when Malachy shows up demanding to see him. Desperate to save Mercedes, Malachy tells DI Andrews he killed Calvin Valentine.
Elliot wakes up in hospital, still wired from his overdose. Kris, Zak and Nancy are incredulous when Archie tries to visit. It’s his fault Elliot’s in this state! Archie’s chased off, but sneaks back later to see Elliot alone. He’s caught trying to bargain for Elliot’s silence when the friends return. A confused Elliot explains that Archie was using him to guinea pig his new designer drugs. Hearing this, Kris goes ballistic on Archie. While everyone’s distracted, Elliot escapes from hospital. Kris finds him at home and has to explain to Elliot that he’s missed his exam. Elliot is inconsolable. A guilty Archie leaves Hollyoaks for good, as Elliot sits distraught over his ruined future.
Rhys thinks Gilly needs to man up and tell Steph how he feels. Gilly tries approaching her at work, but loses his bottle when he finds out she’s joined a dating website. Jem, however, has the confidence to talk to Steph about it and tells her she found out Gilly still loves her and that’s why they are over. She’s welcome to him. When Gilly finds out from Jem that Steph wrote him a letter confessing her love for him, he finally finds the confidence to approach Steph. At long last Gilly tells Steph he loves her and the two are united in a kiss.
Cheryl realises Malachy suspects his wife of murder. She tells DI Andrews as much, but then realises her mistake when Malachy goes to rescue Mercedes. What has she done?
