(Episode 2876)
Zak and Michaela play Jacqui the tape of Des’ racist rant. Jacqui is disgusted by what she hears. Michaela hopes it will spur Jacqui into taking action, but Jacqui doesn’t seem sure. She loves Des and he hasn’t done anything to hurt her. She doesn’t want to be alone again, but can she stay with a man like Des? Jacqui goes to speak to Des about it, only to be faced with a surprise proposal. In front of a horrified Zak and Michaela, Des asks Jacqui to marry him.
Steph’s making Honeymoon plans. Gilly is more worried about their immediate future. He wants to get their latest hospital check-up out of the way before he starts thinking about married life. Steph wonders if she made the right choice, getting a hysterectomy. Gilly reassures her that with Tom, they will have a happy, loving family. Then Steph gets some heartbreaking news…the operation didn’t work. The cancer has spread.
The Costellos are surprised when daughter Jasmine turns up on their doorstep. She’s a bit put out they forgot she was due home today. The family want to hear all about her time in America, although Carl is wary his little princess might have gotten up to mischief abroad. Seth and Riley wind Jasmine up about the way their parents see her. She’ll always be their precious little daughter. Jasmine brags to them about all she got up to while she was away: snowboarding, base-jumping, cliff-diving. She’s had quite the adventure. When Jem turns up to see her, Jasmine’s unimpressed. As far as Jasmine’s concerned, Jem abandoned her.
Kris is anxious about his new job at the bank. Everything seems to be going wrong for him. He’s lost his briefcase, torn his pants, and gets a scalding cup of coffee poured on him. When Myra goes to fix the stain on his shirt, she ends up bloodying his nose by mistake. Then Kris’ briefcase gets stolen. But the most hellish thing about Kris’ day is the fact he fit in at work. He’s now part of the normal, nine-to-five rat race – Kris’ worst nightmare.

Zak wants to set things right with Michaela, but she’s not giving him the chance. They both wonder why Jacqui didn’t tell Des ‘no’ when he proposed to her. What is there to think about? He’s racist scum. While Zak weighs things up, he’s suddenly set upon. Tariq has returned, looking to settle a score. He wants to know what Zak was doing with Des earlier. Zak admits his anger at Tariq was really anger at his brother for going to Afghanistan and getting himself killed. Michaela hears all this and takes pity on Zak, but is it enough for her to forgive him?
Des feels put out that Jacqui is making him wait for an answer. Rose thinks he’s lucky she hasn’t said yes. In her opinion, he deserves better. Des tries to test the water with Zak. Why hasn’t Jacqui given him an answer yet? Zak is wary of being seen with his old friend. Des picks up on this and starts to suspect he might have told Jacqui about his hateful ideals. Rose thinks he needs to find out if Zak’s been disloyal, fast. When Des confronts Zak, he finds out he’s been betrayed. Jacqui knows everything. What will Des do?
Sasha is suspicious of Val. She might be playing happy families now, but how long will it last? She warns Leo and Lauren to stay on their guard; something doesn’t seem right to her. She doesn’t want Lauren to get hurt. Lauren’s given food for thought. When Spencer announces he’s going to sell The Loft and buy his own flat, Valerie uses the opportunity to make her announcement. Leo and Sasha are heartbroken to hear Lauren’s accepted Val’s offer to move back to Spain. They’ve already booked their tickets.
Jasmine’s snuck out and Heidi wants Seth to find her. When he catches up with her, she’s on a skateboard; not the little princess Carl and Heidi thinks she is. Jasmine wants to switch schools, from her posh one in London, to Hollyoaks High, where Seth will attend. She wants to tell Seth a secret, but he’s distracted ogling girls. The moment is lost. Jasmine decides to carry out another daredevil challenge – she rushes into The Loft to take a photo of Sasha on Seth’s phone. Her twin is mortified when he finds out she lost the phone making her escape. Now Sasha’s got it. Sasha stitches Seth up by calling Heidi. Jasmine wants to come clean but Heidi would never believe she was responsible; now everyone thinks Seth is a peeping tom.

Des tries to test the water with Jacqui – is she afraid to marry him? Jacqui skirts the issue, but later Michaela brings it up. She wants to know why Jacqui is stalling; just tell Des ‘No’. Des tries to find out from Zak just how much Jacqui knows. Zak feels betrayed by Des. He was grieving and Des manipulated him. When Des discovers that Michaela’s forgiven Zak, he realises he needs to grovel to get Jacqui onside. Des warns Zak; if he loses Jacqui, he will take it out on Michaela. Des finds Jacqui and feigns a heartfelt apology. Will she fall for it?
Myra’s sorry to read her cousin Vic’s wife just died. It doesn’t matter that the rest of the family haven’t even heard of Vic, let alone his wife – the McQueens are going to pay their respects. Of course, none of them realise they’re at the wrong funeral until Myra stands up before the congregation. Cue embarrassment as Myra eulogises someone with a much racier life than the poor departed nun the rest of the mourners knew. When they get to the real funeral, Theresa spies a handsome, but withdrawn young lad. This is Bart, Victor’s son, and the McQueens are bowled over by his angelic charm and offer to take him in. However, when Dom catches him shoplifting, it seems Bart’s not quite the choirboy they thought. And now the McQueens are stuck with him.
Steph’s at hospital awaiting chemotherapy, when she spies a young lad filming her. Frankie gets impatient, being made to wait, and it puts Steph on edge; she doesn’t need her hand held. Once Frankie’s convinced to go, Steph sets off to find the boy who filmed her. She finds Louis, a fifteen year old on his second bout of cancer. Steph’s saddened to learn he’s been filming in hospital for some time, holding on to the footage of the friends he’s lost. He gives her a veteran’s take on cancer. It’s a relief for Steph to talk to someone who knows what she’s going through. It seems she’s found a new friend in Louis.
Cheryl might be rich, but she’s not rich enough. The Loft is for sale and she wants a loan. Can Kris, with his newfound career as a banker, help? Kris wishes he had the money to take Zoe up on her job offer. He doesn’t want to be stuck behind a desk. Cheryl surprises Kris by fronting him rent and a deposit for a flat in London. But does it come with a catch?

Jacqui is furious with Des, but he begs her to hear him out. He explains his racism stems from a similar tragedy to Zak’s: his parents were killed in a road accident, and in his grief he focused his blame on the driver’s nationality. Jacqui still thinks that’s no excuse. Des claims Rose helped fuel his fury; she’s the one who manipulated him into thinking this way. As he breaks down in front of Jacqui, she starts to crack. Is she going to forgive him? They are interrupted by Rose and Zak. Rose puts Des on the spot, demanding he come with her. Des refuses. Fearful that Jacqui is going to give him a second chance, Zak lands Des in it. He makes him confess to his plans to hurt Carmel and stop the wedding. Jacqui puts on an act for Des, letting him feel like things are okay. Jacqui heads straight to Ravi with Zak’s tape. Now Ravi knows who attacked him…what is Jacqui planning?
Zak’s cornered by Rose. She wants to brand him a traitor, but he’s got news for her: Des is going to give her up to try and keep Jacqui…so much for loyalty. Rose is livid. They both head to the McQueens for a showdown. When it looks like Des is going to get away with his crimes, Zak threatens to go to the police. He doesn’t care if he’s implicated too; he’s prepared to take his punishment. Seeing that Zak is prepared to sacrifice himself, Michaela comes to his rescue. She’ll give him an alibi for the night of the attack. Zak takes hope from this, but although Michaela can see Zak is sorry for what he did, it’s not enough for her to take him back. She tells him it’s over.
Cheryl’s overjoyed to learn Malachy is heading back to Hollyoaks. She expects he’s seen sense and dumped Mercedes. Cheryl’s dismayed when this turns out to be far from true; Malachy and Mercedes are still together. However, much to Cheryl’s delight, Mercedes and Malachy descend into an argument within minutes. It seems all is not well. Marital strife isn’t the only joy for Cheryl, her half-brother Brendan Brady has turned up to surprise her! It seems his wife has had an affair and Brendan’s moving on, something he wants to keep secret. As Cheryl talks about her finances, Brendan takes an interest. Is he here for his sister, or for her cash?
Carmel’s trying to keep an eye on Bart for the day. Already he’s lazing about Evissa, stinking the place up with fast food. His day brightens when he meets Jasmine, who’s tagged along while Heidi gets a treatment. Bored, the two of them mess around with products until Bart ‘borrows’ some cash from the till. He’s going to take Jasmine out tomorrow. Is this the start of something wonderful for these two? Not if Carl and Heidi find out.

Ravi’s anxious to get his own back on Des, but Jacqui needs him to be patient. She wants to do things her way. Michaela gets impatient that Jacqui seems to be stalling. Des took Zak away from her; she wants Jacqui to get rid of Des in return. Jacqui assures her sister that plans are afoot. Meanwhile Des tells Rose he thinks Jacqui will forgive him, and then he’s going to give her their mother’s ring. They’ll be engaged. He’s hopeful about a meeting Jacqui’s arranged. When he meets up with Jacqui, he gets down on one knee and proposes again. But what will Jacqui say?
Carl’s heard about Bart and warns Jasmine she’s not allowed to date. Jasmine thinks he’s overreacting, and tries to bargain with him, but Carl loses his temper having to repeat himself. Later on, Jasmine packs up a bag of clothes and sneaks out. What’s she up to? She heads to a shack, where she sends Bart a text saying she can’t meet him, and then starts getting changed. While Carl is out looking for Jasmine, he stumbles across a gang of louts graffitiing in the village. When he chases after them, they split up, and we follow a kid called Jason. Away from Carl and his friends we find out Jason isn’t all that he seems.
Brendan wants to help Cheryl buy The Loft. He sets her up with a silent partner – Danny Houston. Malachy doesn’t trust Brendan to have done right by Cheryl, and Carl confirms this. He knows Danny Houston, by reputation; he’s a gangster. When Malachy tries to raise this with Cheryl, she thinks he’s just being jealous. Away from his sister, Brendan tells Malachy to keep his nose out. Malachy objects when he sees Mercedes flirting with Brendan. Mercedes seems unrepentant about it, so when mysterious stranger Veronica starts flirting with Malachy, he finds himself opening up to her. He’s betraying Mercedes and loving it, but Veronica has another agenda. Has Malachy been played for a fool?
Kris wonders if Zak is going to fight to keep Michaela. It seems like his old friend has given up. Zak feels he’d be better off in London with Kris…in fact, what’s stopping him. Before Kris knows what’s happening, Zak has invited himself on the great escape to the capital. They’ll leave tonight! Jake’s also looking for a way out, but Zak and Kris are reluctant to let him join in. However when Steph finds out they turned Jake down she puts them on the spot to take her brother along, happily playing the cancer card to manipulate them. Zak, Kris and Jake all leave for London, as a heartbroken Michaela watches on.
