After an anxious wait, Louis finally breaks the news that he’s got the all clear! With her spirits lifted, Steph heads in for her appointment and afterwards proudly presents the cheque to the hospital. Back at home, Steph sits Gilly down to talk and drops the bombshell that there’s nothing the doctors can do for her anymore; her cancer’s terminal. A stunned Gilly comforts Steph, as they both face the tragic reality that she’s going to die…

When Alistair asks to meet her again, insistent that she gives him her answer, she’s all set on declining his proposal, despite her financial troubles, until he presents her with a huge diamond ring! With an intrigued Cheryl secretly spying on them, Cindy agrees to marry Alistair, overjoyed at the sight of the ring on her finger.

Malachy and Lynsey are enjoying flirting with each other, until they are interrupted by Brendan. At work, Malachy is frustrated when Mercedes turns up dressed to kill for a meeting with a mystery guy; she still knows how to push his buttons and Brendan enjoys watching him squirm. Later, Mercedes reveals that the stranger is in fact only a prospective employer, but when Malachy hints that he might have a new love interest, it’s her turn to hide her envy. Curious to know who Malachy might be dating, Mercedes turns up at his house and questions a confused Lynsey. Steph gathers her family round the table to break the news that her cancer is terminal. As they all try and take it in, Tom angrily flees the house, accusing Steph of breaking her promise that she’s not going to die on him. Darren chases after Tom and they come across Kevin, who interests Tom with his plans to make a beacon. As Tom watches Kevin forage for suitable materials, he opens up about Steph and his bleak view of death. Kevin challenges his attitude towards the afterlife and with his spirits lifted, Tom returns home with Darren and apologises to Steph for his reaction. His faith has clearly been restored as he explains Kevin’s alternative philosophy to a bemused Steph and he assures her that he’s going to look after her from now on. With Tom comforted for the time being, Steph confides her own fears to Darren about what the forthcoming months will bring…

Lynsey tries her best to act casual when Cheryl reports that Malachy might have a mystery girl on the go. Cheryl is convinced that it can’t be anything serious and is hopeful that after this brief fling he’ll be ready to move on properly…with her! Uncertain about where things are headed and troubled by Cheryl’s declaration, Lynsey broaches the subject with Malachy. Acknowledging the need to keep things secret and with Cheryl clearly far from their minds, Malachy and Lynsey fall in to a passionate embrace.

An irritable Cindy gives Cheryl short shrift and denies her engagement. Riled, Cheryl hints to India and Tex about their grandfather’s engagement and mentions that he’ll be in The Dog at lunch with his new, much younger fiancée. Whilst Alistair charms an awkward Cindy with romantic gestures, they are interrupted by India and Tex who angrily accuse Cindy of being nothing other than a gold-digger. Cindy fights back and Alistair calls for an end to the squabbling; he wants to spend his hard earned cash enjoying life and he intends to do so with Cindy. Later, Alistair tries to reassure Cindy that his granddaughters won’t present any further problems and reveals how excited he is about their future. Happy to have heard about her disinterest in his financial status, Alistair hands Cindy a prenuptial agreement; this is not quite what she had in mind.

(Episode 2898)

As they prepare to start their first day at Hollyoaks High, Sinead shows Finn exactly how she’s going to make waves. When Finn comes across Amber, she mistakes his friendliness for a crush and shoots him down, but she seems impressed by Sinead’s rebellious streak. A mischievous Sinead sets up a practical joke for the Deputy Head, but unable to stand by and watch him walk into the trap, Finn leaps into Rob’s path and instead it’s the Head who ends up on the floor covered in water. While Sinead reprimands Finn, they are both disgusted to hear of Amber’s crush on Rob and Finn makes a startling revelation: Rob’s their dad! Later at home, Rob returns with the news of his promotion to Acting Head. Diane is overjoyed at Rob’s success, but Sinead is furious; what’s everyone at school going to think now?

Alistair harries a reluctant Cindy to sign on the dotted line of the prenuptial agreement. He’s keen to make a start with the wedding arrangements and Cindy’s eyes light up at the prospect of a luxury honeymoon in the Seychelles! Still annoyed at having to sign away her potential fortune, Cindy heads over to MOBs and whines away to Steph, who’s gobsmacked at her heartlessness. When she crosses paths with Darren to let off more steam, he’s outraged and breaks the news of Steph’s terminal cancer. Having made amends with Steph, Cindy arranges to meet Alistair to tell him that she’s been doing some thinking. While Cindy philosophises about the brevity of life, Alistair collapses to the floor with a heart attack.

When Darren shows concern for Steph hard at work, she tells him that the subject of her cancer is off the agenda for today. Steph soon realises that no one in the village has a clue about her prognosis and chastises Cheryl for not spreading the news. Cheryl listens in disbelief as Steph explains she thought would tell everyone about her condition. Cheryl’s upset but Steph admits that it would have been rather helpful if she had gossiped about it, it would certainly save her the time and energy of having to repeat the story. When Cindy comes to apologise for talking out of turn and asks how long she has left, Gilly leaps in and declares that there are plenty of treatments left to try – this is not the end! Steph is shocked by his denial of the facts and tells him firmly that he has to accept the reality of the situation or else she can’t marry him. Gilly is horrified as a determined Steph hands him back her engagement ring.

Anita is disgusted by Duncan kissing her mum and issues him a threat to keep his mouth shut. Eva shows up at school and announces she’s got an interview for the role of School Counsellor. When she isn’t successful, she decides it’s because of her antics with Duncan and informs Rob that it was nothing serious and enlightens him to her vast qualities. Fresh from his promotion to Acting Head, Rob offers a delighted Eva the job of Design Assistant. Incensed by Eva’s stunt, Anita tells her that she’s had enough of her interfering in her life; she never wants to see her again.

She gets a text from him, asking to meet. He proposes again but India interrupts and Cindy does a runner. Cindy ponders with Darren over what to do. Darren asks to see the pre-nuptial agreement.
