Monday 1st February 2010
(Episode 4996)

Hugo has kidnapped Charlie and she realizes that he is behind all the people smuggling. Through flashback, we discover how Hugo is involved in the people smuggling and what he has been up to in the Bay since his arrival.

In the present, Hugo is about to toss Charlie overboard to force her to swim to an island, which should buy him time. He then would let the authorities know where she is. Soon the table turns and it is Charlie who is holding the gun just as Suzy arrives in the distance with intentions to take Hugo out. He tells Charlie they will have to work together.

Xavier, Alf and Romeo find the refugees in the shipping container, Wayan is in a bad way and needs immediate medical attention. They take him to Hospital, where Rachel does an operation to save his life.

Martha is still tied up in the boot of Derrick's car, being held hostage - she doesn't understand how Hugo could be involved in any of this. Angelo has been hiding in the back of the car and at the right time overpowers Derrick. Angelo is forced to tell Martha all about Hugo. Martha can't believe that Hugo is involved in the people smuggling, but just as she's processing this, Derrick stirs, and shoots at her. Angelo dives in front, taking a bullet for her, but will he survive?


Tuesday 2nd February 2010
(Episode 4997)

With Suzy bearing down on them, Hugo tells Charlie they need to work together in order to survive. She doesn't want to, she doesn't trust Hugo, but she realizes she doesn't have much of a choice. They work together and take Suzy down, but Hugo uses the situation to escape, even though Charlie begs him to turn himself in but instead he leaves Charlie in the water trying to keep Suzy from drowning.

Even though he's been shot, Angelo is determined to catch Derrick, and asks Martha to help him. If Derrick gets away, they lose their whole case. Angelo chases him through a car park, eventually catching and apprehending him. Arriving at the Hospital later, Martha collapses into Tony's arms, telling him that it was Hugo who was responsible.

Hugo is about to leave the Bay, but decides against it, wanting to see Martha one last time. He goes to the Hospital and apologizes to her – he loved her, he wanted to make a new life with her, but his old life wouldn't leave him alone. Hugo is about to leave when angelo is standing at the door and this time he is not going to let Hugo get away.

During the interrogation Charlie fills Hugo in on every detail of the people smuggling, hoping to force Hugo into a full admission but he doesn't. Angelo is walking Hugo to a vehicle because he is being taken away to the city, Martha is there and Hugo pleads with Angelo for one final word with Martha, as he is having this final goodbye he is shot and killed by an Indonesian Man outside the police station.

Wayan emerges from surgery, but his recovery is deemed touch and go – they're not sure if he'll make it. When he eventually wakes up, he tells Rachel that Hugo was responsible for everything, something that shocks everyone. People in the Bay can't believe it was Hugo who was responsible, it's simply too difficult a concept to process. Later, when Wayan is recovered, he is reunited with Bambang.


Wednesday 3rd February 2010
(Episode 4998)

After a drunken couple of nights, Miles is woken on the beach by a little girl, whose name is Rabbit. He returns home, only to learn from Alf about Hugo's death and what has been happening. Miles can't believe what Hugo was involved in, but Alf is more concerned about where Miles has been – he's been gone for 2 days. Rabbit arrives to see Miles, they banter – she informs him she's going to be sticking around for a while, she’s staying in the caravan park. Right now, Miles is enjoying Rabbit's company.

Angelo arrives to tell Gina and Xavier of Hugo's death, they are in disbelief to hear he was involved in the people smuggling. Gina is unable to give way to any emotion about Hugo's death, she can't process it until she learns the full truth about what her son has done. Xavier however, is not shut out to emotion, he cries all alone over the loss of his brother.

The funeral is held a week later, and Martha isn't handling it well, but neither is Gina. She refuses to attend, and won't be talked around. The funeral is a quiet affair, with not many people attending. Martha is unable to take it, and she is sobbing at the loss of her lover. Upon arriving home, Xavier finds a note from Hugo confirming his love for his brothers and stating to Xavier that Hugo believes in him and knows that he is a better person and must always be there for Brendan and their mother. There is also a box, containing around $100,000.

Outside the funeral, we learn that Hugo is not in fact dead. He watches Martha cry over him, then Angelo drives him away. We flashback, learning that Hugo faked his death in a deal with Angelo to testify and tell the Police everything. If he had gone to prison, Martha would still have been in danger, and Hugo refused to do that to her. Only Alf is told the truth, Hugo asks him to make sure Martha doesn't grieve for him too long. After seeing Martha at the grave side, Hugo leaves, and is never to return to Summer Bay again.


Thursday 4th February 2010
(Episode 4999)

Aden is on a high, happy with life after his kiss with Nicole, but Nicole is the exact opposite, down after the kiss. She wants to know what's going on between them, but he doesn't know. We learn through flashback that after their kiss, Aden pulled away and was cold toward Nicole. He explains he thought he'd feel guilty about kissing her, but he didn't, in fact he didn't feel anything at all.

Liam, however, is torn over whether to call Nicole, desperate to make amends after cheating on her and causing their break-up. Things are awkward between them when they see each other – he wants to be friends, but she's not interested, confessing to Liam that she kissed Aden. He is hurt by this news, and asks Aden for help to repair his friendship with Nicole, but Aden isn't inclined to help him. Liam is down and absent-minded is he about to fall off the wagon?

Ruby has a run in with John Palmer over the medical treatment needed for the people that were found in the container, she accuses him of being racist and it looks like the boxing gloves are on and there is more fighting to come.

Hazem and Leah continue to flirt, and he asks her out on a date. The question catches Leah off guard, but she eventually accepts, thanks to Irene's encouragement. On their date, the couple enjoy a drink before John Palmer passes, making a dig at Hazem about his work on the Gym. It upsets Hazem and causes them to leave. Leah tries to tell him not to worry and tries to lift his spirits by asking him to dinner at her place. He accepts, she encourages him to stand up to John, which he does. He thanks her with flowers the next day, and their romance continues to blossom.


Friday 5th February 2010
(Episode 5000)

Having told Romeo about money that Hugo has left him, neither he nor Xavier know what to do with it. Following Hugo's instructions, they try and do something good by giving $5000 away. They try to give the money away to the refugees appeal, but they mess that up, and the money ends up in Leah's picnic basket instead. They try to steal it back, but instead are busted by the Police. It eventually ends up back at the house – the boys feel they're unable to even give it away – they think the money is cursed. But before they can wallow, they are treated to a surprise guest – the arrival of Romeo's sister, Mink.

Liam receives the cold shoulder from Nicole – she thinks he's wallowing in his own misery too much, but when she hears he might be falling off the wagon, she feels bad. Aden confesses to Irene that he kissed Nicole, but is worried that he's hurt her. Liam finds drugs left by Poppie, and in his sour frame of mind, considers taking them, before throwing them in the bin. Nicole admits that she shouldn't be taking out her anger with Liam on Aden, Miles advises her to take it slow.

Liam begs Aden to talk to Nicole for him – he wants his friendship back, but Aden won't. Aden confesses to Geoff that he has real feelings for Nicole – the kiss with her felt right. Aden and Nicole apologize to each other, they kiss and make up, which Liam sees. Angry, he goes home, retrieving the drugs from the bin and taking them. Then he realizes what he's done and calls an ambulance to have his stomach pumped.

After confronting John the previous day, Ruby is still angry with him about the treatment of the refugees. Her and Geoff are trying to raise money for them by collecting donations. They run into John while collecting, and Ruby makes a big show in front of John, designed to embarrass him. John threatens to call a lawyer if Ruby continues the harassment, something that Irene warned her about – she doesn't want to make an enemy of John Palmer.
