Monday 19th April 2010
(Episode 5051)

Since discovering a photo of himself and Hugo at the Battery, the same photo Xavier gave Hugo for his birthday, Xavier has been harbouring suspicions that Hugo isn’t dead. He decides to stake out the Battery over night, but doesn’t see anyone. Just as he starts to believe he’s living in fantasyland – hoping against hope that Hugo’s alive - Ruby tells him that she’s heard that Leah’s former husband, Vinnie, was a police informant and that the cops faked his death and gave him a new identity.

Xavier's suspicions are aroused again and he goes to see Angelo who was present when Hugo supposedly died. Angelo confirms the tragic story. He was there. He saw Hugo die – end of story. Xavier seems convinced, but Angelo is rattled that the boy is so close to the truth. Angelo goes to Alf to see if he’s said anything to Xavier. Alf is adamant that he hasn’t – doing so would only cause Martha more pain and that’s the last thing he wants. Angelo believes him, but it does little to quell his suspicions about Xavier.

Gina is having problems with Xavier too. She and John are both keen to continue a physical relationship, but Gina is constrained by her agreement with Xavier that John won’t stay over at their place. John cheekily suggests that that doesn’t preclude her from “spending some time” with him at his house and Gina goes along with that. She arrives home late and it’s not until the next morning that she realises that Xavier didn’t come home at all.

Gina is beside herself as she tries to track him down and then, when he finally contacts her, she’s very suspicious when he suggests that he simply fell asleep at Ruby’s place and spent the night there. Gina tries to catch Ruby out, but when she confirms that Xavier stayed over, Gina reluctantly accepts it. She still has her suspicions however and none of this goes anywhere near solving her problem of how to spend more private time with John.

Now that some people know about Rabbit, Miles can’t duck the issue of seeking help and Rachel sets up an appointment for him to see Michael who’s a shrink. Marilyn and Alf, both desperately worried about Miles, hope that Michael can help him. Miles however is torn. He feels that either way he loses. If Michael puts him on medication he’s going to lose Rabbit and if he doesn’t go on medication he risks losing control of his life. Rabbit is equally apprehensive knowing that Michael’s prospective treatment may see Miles taken from her. It’s decision time for Miles and it’s clearly a very difficult choice for him to make.

Tuesday 20th April 2010
(Episode 5052)

Rachel is able to tell Miles that there is nothing physically wrong with him, but Miles is hardly relieved as his ability to see Rabbit is now most likely to be delusional. Both he and Rabbit are apprehensive about Miles’ upcoming visit to Michael, a shrink, as they know it’s likely that he’ll recommend drug therapy that may make Rabbit disappear. Fighting his own fears, and ignoring Rabbit’s protestations, Miles meets with Michael. He knows he has to go through with this because if Rabbit is a real ghost he’ll still see her, but if she’s a figment of his delusional mind then he really needs treatment.

When Michael delivers his verdict and tells Miles he will need drug therapy, Miles really struggles with the notion. He fills the prescription on the way home, forces himself to ignore Rabbit’s pleas, and takes his first dose. They both then sit around on edge, waiting to see what effects the medication will have.

Liam arrives at the Farm to have a prearranged breakfast with Martha only to find her upset and out of sorts. He’s worried about her, but she sends him packing and then phones in sick to work. Liam takes his concerns to Alf and tells him that he doesn’t think Martha is physically ill, more like very sad. Alf visits Martha and finds her distraught, and still in her dressing gown late in the afternoon. Martha initially tries to cover her tears, but then it all pours out of her. Lately she’s been lonely and constantly missing Hugo. It seems that she’s managed to bury her grief at losing him, but now it’s all resurfaced. Alf comforts her, but is made to feel very low and uneasy knowing, as he does, that Hugo is still alive.

Leah has finally given VJ the tape Vinnie made for him on his first birthday and is now concerned as VJ is obsessed with playing and replaying it. Leah feels bad that she waited so long to tell him the truth about his father and Elijah feels similarly after telling them that Vinnie had died. Elijah begins to think that VJ and Leah both need some closure over Vinnie and offers to take them on a road trip to Vinnie’s burial site. Leah is hesitant about going, but when VJ is enthusiastic she agrees.

Xavier and Gina have been going through a difficult time, ostensibly over Gina’s involvement with John Palmer, which Xavier doesn’t accept. But Xavier has his own problems having become suspicious that Hugo isn’t dead after finding a photo of him and his brother among some other gear at the Battery. Mother and son do some re-bonding when they discuss how they are dealing with life after Hugo.

Wednesday 21st April 2010
(Episode 5053)

Miles has started taking the medication that Michael prescribed for him and is dismayed when it seems to cause him to lose the ability to see Rabbit anymore. While he knew that was a potential outcome, if he really was delusional, Miles misses Rabbit terribly. He’s tormented when, on the beach, he thinks he hears Rabbit calling to him from out in the water and he searches grimly for her, but without luck, only to find out that it was actually a dream. Alf and Marilyn grow increasingly concerned for him as he continues searching for Rabbit and it seems to them that Miles has become even more unstable on the medication. After a long day, Miles finds himself back on the beach, but for real this time. He sees something in the water and drags out some bunny ears. As he turns them over tenderly in his hands he hears a familiar voice – it’s Rabbit and Miles hugs her tightly - overjoyed by the reunion.

In the hope of giving Leah and VJ some closure after Vinnie’s death, Elijah has arranged a road trip so that they can visit his grave. While Leah is somewhat confronted and apprehensive about the trip, VJ embraces the idea and can’t get there soon enough. It’s a long drive and VJ’s impatience grows, but Elijah has come prepared and has some games to keep him occupied. Leah is touched by his thoughtfulness and, as they break the journey and camp for the night, it becomes clear that if nothing else, this trip is going to bring all three closer together.

Justin and Aden, after burying their father in the bush, are already living on a knife edge, but the pressure increases massively when further laboratory results on the blood found on Justin at the accident site, reveals that it belonged to his dad. With Larry missing, his bank account untouched for days, and Justin the last person to see him, the police become suspicious of the brothers and they come under close scrutiny. The ante is further elevated when Angelo and Charlie ask the brothers to join them on another search of the bush around where Justin’s car crashed. Aden and Justin are sick with worry as they buried Larry in the same region. Is the game almost up?

Nicole’s feeling aggrieved that Britt used her basic designs for a collection that she’s sold to a department store and Nicole got no credit at all. Stewing over the perceived injustice and encouraged by Marilyn, Nicole confronts Britt who reacts badly to the implication that she “stole” the designs from her and threatens legal action. Nicole is left devastated.

Thursday 22nd April 2010
(Episode 5054)

Elijah has taken VJ and Leah on a road trip, which is all about giving them some closure over Vinnie’s death. After camping out for the night, they drive on to the graveyard the next day. Finally there, VJ, who was so keen to do the trip, falters. Leah doesn’t find it easy either, but Elijah finds the right words to get them to Vinnie’s grave. Once there he leaves them alone to grieve.

When it’s all over Leah is pleased to have made the trip. A day hasn’t passed when she hasn’t thought about Vinnie, but now she’s seen where he’s been laid to rest she feels it’s time to move on. Some hours later, when at a rest stop, not too far from home, first VJ and later Leah thank Elijah for deciding on the trip and both hug him tight. While it’s a final, and belated farewell, for Vinnie, the future beckons for this trio.

Charlie has arranged to take Aden and Justin back to the crash site, in an effort to work out exactly what happened and the boys both have a sleepless night beforehand, worried sick that the cops may find Larry’s grave while they’re there. Every minute at the crash site is torture for Aden and his brother and they are alarmed when Charlie decides to do a quick sweep of the nearby bush. Aden invites himself along, and, just when it seems Charlie will discover Larry’s grave, Aden manages to divert her attention.

Being alone with Aden, Charlie exhorts him to tell her anything he knows about what happened. She tells him she knows that Justin isn’t telling the truth and she insists she will get to the bottom of this matter. Aden’s adamant that he knows nothing, and Charlie seems momentarily satisfied. But when they rejoin Justin it’s very clear to Aden that something has happened to his brother as he’s quiet and clearly on edge. Aden calls Justin on what’s wrong when they are finally alone together at home, and Justin comes clean. He had some flashbacks while he was out at the crash site and he reveals that he killed their dad, Larry.

Nicole called Britt on passing off Nicole’s designs as her own, when she sold her collection to a department store, and Britt threatened her with legal action, claiming that the work she did on Nicole’s original designs made them new designs. Nicole is given pause and wonders if in fact Britt’s right. She checks some legal sites on the internet and begins to realise that copyright law is a grey area. But Aden, Annie and Romeo pressure her not to let the matter rest. They all think that Britt’s ripped Nicole off. Nicole decides not to bring in the lawyers, but to handle the problem herself. She finally decides to talk to her classmates about it and they come up with a unique solution. They walk out on Britt’s class en masse and Britt is left will little option but to quit.

Friday 23rd April 2010
(Episode 5055)

Concerned about how sad Martha seems, Alf asks Colleen to drop in on her. The dinner that results sees Colleen become alarmed about Martha’s state of mind. Not only does she seem belatedly overwhelmed about losing Hugo, but she doesn’t seem to be coping with her grief. Colleen has never seen her like that before and worries when Martha tells her she doesn’t feel she’ll be able to cope if the pain doesn’t ease soon. Colleen talks to Alf about her concerns and Alf, knowing that Hugo is still alive, tries a different tack. He visits Angelo and demands that he tells Martha the truth, and threatens that if he doesn’t, then Alf will tell her himself.

Angelo talks Alf around. Telling Martha about Hugo might ease her emotional distress, but it’d be replaced by her being put in real physical danger. Concerned, Angelo visits Martha and, over wine and pizza, tries to offer her ways of dealing with her pain. However, next day at work, Angelo gets some news that sees him hurry round to see Alf where he throws him a curve ball – Hugo’s gone missing from witness protection.

Ruby loves her role in the upcoming school production of Romeo and Juliet. She thinks Mercutio gets all the best lines and she’s right into playing him. Her enthusiasm wanes a little however, when Liam tells her that he’s written a song for Mercutio. Ruby thinks she can’t sing and is petrified of doing it on stage in front of a packed house. But Liam’s heard otherwise and finally coaxes Ruby in for a rehearsal. He’s then blown away by Ruby’s voice and scraps his song, vowing to write her a new one, one that does justice to her voice. Ruby is somewhat bemused but happy by this strange twist.

Romeo has promised to take Annie on a dinner date that she’ll remember forever. So she’s surprised when he suggests they meet up at the theatre. When she arrives the place is in darkness and she’s thrown, but then Romeo appears and gives her a costume bag and tells her to get changed. That marks the beginning of a memorable and romantic evening. Both dressed in medieval garb – Annie playing princess to Romeo’s knight -, they dine and are dazzled by an array of theatrics that Romeo has set up. Both are still dreamy the next day and agree to meet at lunch, each telling the other that they have something they want to say to them. Once at their meeting, in unison they each other “I love you.”
