(Episode 5066)
A distressed and angry Martha, having heard from Alf that Hugo didn’t die in the shootout, turns up at the Police Station looking for answers. She is further distressed to learn that Charlie also knew the truth and then turns her wrath on Angelo. For not the first time, he’s been the source of terrible pain and grief in her life. Angelo tries to defend himself. He assures her that both he and Alf were troubled by their secret. At first Martha doesn’t want his apologies or his explanations, but eventually Angelo gets through to her that he and Hugo were simply trying to protect her and Hugo’s family by lying to them. While Martha gets an insight into why they did what they did, she’s left with a terrible dilemma of her own. After what she’s been through how can she not tell Gina and Xavier that Hugo may still be alive.
Elijah and Leah are getting along well and their relationship is blossoming. It’s helped by the fact that young VJ seems quite taken with Elijah. The Reverend is even planning to take VJ’s classmates caving which VJ finds exciting. Leah is excited to be going along too. Rabbit has warned Miles that she has had a vision that will see Miles tested in the near future, but she doesn’t tell him exactly what it is. When Miles falls asleep he is deeply troubled to find himself, surrounded by Elijah, Leah, VJ, and a bunch of students who all appear to be dead lying in the mouth of a cave. When Miles wakes with a start, Rabbit tells him that they have to hurry. Leah and the kids need him.
Romeo is struggling to come to terms with life after Annie. When he realises that she’s been in contact with others in the Bay and not him, he realises once and for all that he is no longer part of her life. It’s Liam who realises just how badly cut-up Romeo is and he tries to help ease the boy’s pain. He tells him that broken hearts have long been the basis for great poetry and love songs and suggests Romeo takes a shot at writing poetry himself. Romeo isn’t keen at first, but finally consents to penning a very short story instead. He hates the final product, but when Liam rescues the story from the trash, he’s very impressed.

(Episode 5067)
Elijah has agreed to take VJ and his classmates on an excursion exploring caves and no one is more excited than VJ himself. Leah is also tagging along and she’s really pleased that Elijah and VJ are getting along so well. While the weather isn’t the best, the group set out and manage to make the caves before the rain buckets down. They all fail to miss a sign that warns of potential flash flooding, being distracted by a couple of campers who are leaving the cave area. The group take cover from the rain in a cave but luckily, a Ranger finds them, warns them of the risks of staying here in such treacherous conditions, and the excursion is abandoned. The Ranger directs them to the way out. As the storm intensifies, the group takes shelter in a farm shed, where they intend to wait out the storm.
Aden and Justin are relieved to hear from Morag that the police have finally dropped all charges against them. Justin immediately starts to make plans to head back to Base, but when he comes across Nicole he can’t help but tell her, not for the first time, that she’s holding Aden back. That he’s simply marking time doing dead-end jobs flipping burgers and selling bait, waiting for her to finish her HSC. Nicole initially fights back, but after observing Aden closely and hearing advice from Liam, she soon starts to feel that there’s some truth in what Justin said, and she’s very unsettled by that.
Still rattled from the nightmare showing Leah, Elijah, VJ and a group of kids trapped and looking lifeless, Miles, with Rabbit in tow, hurries to the National Park to find them, he finally arrives at the caves car park to find it closed to the public due to bad weather. Rabbit implores Miles to still track down the group just to make sure they are safe and Miles agrees. However he’s thwarted when he runs out of petrol. Forced to abandon his car by the side of the road he sets off for the closest farm house, hoping to be able to call for help from there. He sees a sign warning that a gas main is on the property and then his blood runs cold when he looks inside and sees Elijah, Leah, VJ and a bunch of kids lying on the floor looking lifeless, just as he’d seen in the nightmare. Miles eventually gets the barn door open, wakes everyone and gets them all to safety.

(Episode 5068)
Miles is worried he’s never going to see Rabbit again. He’s pleasantly surprised therefore, when Rabbit does put in an appearance. She doesn’t stay long before shimmering away before his eyes, after telling him to meet her on the beach. Miles heads to the beach, and Elijah joins him, imploring him to let Rabbit go.
Miles rejects Elijah’s advice and finally manages to find Rabbit at the beach where they first met. Miles starts to help her build a sand castle, and confides his fear that she is about to leave him. Rabbit believes he doesn’t need her help any more. Sad, Miles knows that he can’t stop her from going, will this be a final goodbye to Rabbit?
Justin has unsettled Nicole by suggesting to her that Aden’s wasting his life doing dead-end jobs, just killing time, waiting for her to finish school. Initially Nicole fights back, suggesting Justin, who disappeared from Aden’s life and wasn’t around in his hour of dire need when Belle died, has a cheek attacking her. She reckons Aden’s big enough to make his own decisions.
While Nicole makes some strong points and Justin offers something of an apology, Nicole can’t help but look at Aden differently. She sees that he isn’t very happy with his lot and tackles him on it. Aden admits he’s been happier, particularly after Justin reminds him that he’s wasting his life, but tells her that it’s got nothing to do with her. Nicole, however, makes a tough decision – one that she believes is best for Aden – she decides to end their relationship.

(Episode 5069)
Martha, having been told by Angelo that Hugo didn’t die in the shootout she witnessed, and revealing that it was all faked, is having trouble keeping the news from Hugo’s family. When Xavier, who had been helping her at the farm, stays over for dinner, Martha blurts out to Xavier that his long held gut feeling that Hugo wasn’t dead is correct, or at least she hopes it is, as Hugo has gone missing from witness protection and the police have no idea where he is. Xavier’s excited by the news and is very disappointed when Gina, Tony and Rachel don’t share his elation when they are told. The rest of the family is wary and more pragmatic.
While pleased to hear that Hugo survived the shootout, they know he is a hunted man. Not only are the cops looking for him, but his former associates are too, and the whole extended family is now in danger as the bad guys might use them to flush out Hugo. Gina, in particular, struggles with the news. She’s had terrible trouble dealing with Hugo’s death and now she can’t bear the thought of not knowing where he is, or even if, in fact he’s still alive. Xavier thinks he knows where Hugo might be and sets out for the lighthouse. Along the way a car stops in front of Xavier, who is overjoyed to find Hugo behind the wheel.
Aden can’t accept that Nicole’s dumped him, seemingly for no reason. He’s desperate to get back with her, but she won’t even tell him what he’s done wrong so that he can set things right. He doesn’t know that his brother, Justin, planted the seeds of Nicole’s unrest by suggesting that Aden was wasting his life. Desperate, he even corners Nicole and it is then that Nicole tells him she’ll get back together with him if he can tell her he loves her. Aden can’t and Nicole tells him that’s why it’s over. They have no future together. Hurting, Aden makes a firm decision. To Justin’s delight, Aden tells his brother that he wants to leave town with him. He sends a farewell text to a devastated Nicole and Aden and Justin drive out of Summer Bay together - it seems this is a final good-bye to Aden.
Gina is still upset that John and Tony intend on settling their differences in the ring and it’s getting in the road of John’s relationship with her. So, when he sees Tony with Rachel, John gives Tony the opportunity to pull out of the bout. Rachel jumps in and accepts the offer, which infuriates Tony. As far as he’s concerned the fight will take place. Later, when they hear the news about Hugo perhaps being alive, Gina tells Tony they have enough on their plates dealing with that and don’t need the complication of Tony fighting John too. She asks Tony to call the fight off – for her sake at least - and Tony finally, if reluctantly, agrees.

(Episode 5070)
Hugo has returned to Summer Bay and revealed himself to Xavier. He tells him about going into the witness protection program only to have a former acquaintance turn up in the small town he’d been sent to. Fearing Martha and his family are in danger, Hugo explains he’s come back home to keep an eye on the people he cares about and reveals that he’s been watching them all from a distance for weeks. Now though, Hugo reveals he has to leave the next day to protect his loved ones. Xavier tries to convince Hugo to at least see Martha before he takes off, but Hugo feels it’s better if he doesn’t. He, however, has a favour to ask of Xavier. He needs supplies and can’t risk shopping himself. Xavier is happy to do the shopping and agrees to meet Hugo in a couple of hours. Xavier takes off and enlists Ruby’s help in purchasing the supplies. The two of them return to rendezvous with Hugo, but he doesn’t show, and Xavier starts to panic.
The police are unaware that Hugo is already in town and he’s causing them serious problems. They have 24hours in which to locate him, otherwise Hugo will be in breach of his witness protection conditions and will become a man on the run. If that happens, Angelo is worried that the press will then get hold of the story. Angelo and Charlie’s other main concern is the effect that it would have on Martha and Hugo’s family. The cops are unaware that Martha has already told all the Austin family that Hugo’s death at the shootout had been faked. Charlie decides to pay Martha another visit in the hope that she may know where Hugo is, but Martha honestly tells her that she has no idea if Hugo is still alive, or whether his former accomplices have killed him.
Gina tells Tony that she knows she should feel overjoyed that there is at least a possibility that Hugo is alive, but she doesn’t. She did it so tough mourning Hugo’s death and struggling to move on that she fears she won’t be able to turn that around. Tony assures her that if she saw Hugo those fears would all disappear, but Gina isn’t convinced. Gina meets up with John, and initially can’t tell him what’s worrying her, but when she sees Angelo in the Surf Club, all Gina’s pent up frustrations see her snap. She slaps and abuses Angelo for putting her and her family through so much pain with all his lies. Angelo takes her bile, feeling he deserves it, even if he was trying to protect them all. Gina then tells John all and he is comforting, but later when Gina is finishing up for the day at school she has a surprise visitor – Hugo.
