(Episode 5096)

A mystery man watches the news report on the Summer Bay riots and finds it hilarious. He heads into town and introduces himself to Marilyn as Penn Graham. He’s looking for a place to stay and Marilyn takes him to the caravan park, where he meets Romeo, Miles and Nicole. Nicole is instantly taken with him and later stumbles upon him at the beach. She fishes for information on Penn, but he sees through her act and tells her he knows she wants details on him. That afternoon, Penn reads Nicole’s palm and tells her someone wicked is about to come into her life – or perhaps he already has…he heads off, leaving Nicole’s heart a flutter.

Gina is stressing over the situation with John and decides to give him a call. His phone rings out and little does Gina know it’s because he is with Jill. John sees the missed calls and feels bad, but Jill woos him back to bed. Later, Gina bumps into Jill and asks if she knows where John was the previous night. Aware of the tension the truth would cause, Jill is busy deflecting when John walks in carrying an item of Jill’s clothing she left at his place the night before. The implication is clear and John doesn’t deny it. He tells Gina that Jill doesn’t send him mixed messages, she doesn’t take one step forward and then two back the way Gina does. Hearing this upsets Gina further, but she later resolves herself and tells Jill that she’s going to stop pushing John away. Jill asks if Gina’s stealing John off her. Gina says she’s not, but if John comes back to her she won’t say no.

Meanwhile, Romeo is furious that Jill is causing all this trouble with Gina. Nicole tells him to stay out of his Mothers love life, but Romeo feels compelled to step in. Things always go bad for Jill when she’s with a man and she always starts drinking again. Later, when he learns from Miles that Gina would still like to be with John, he’s even more upset by Jill’s actions. He goes to see Gina and tells her that if she lets him help, he can get John back for her.

(Episode 5097)

Xavier is sitting on the Pier, dropping old photos of him and Ruby into the water. Lost in the moment, he’s caught off guard when confronted by an outspoken girl - April. She tells him he’s causing harm to the environment by throwing things in the water and he should walk down and fish the pictures out. Xavier’s head is spinning – who is this girl? But rather than bow to her request entirely, he takes a running jump off the pier into the water. Suddenly April is impressed. The two swap stories and Xavier learns April has just moved to the Bay. They are getting along well until Xavier sees Ruby pass by and clock his ease with April. Feeling bad for Ruby, he suddenly clams up and tells her he has to go. April’s left bemused by his sudden change of mood.

Ruby is caught up with big ideas re her and Liam’s music. As he struggles to write a song, she sits nearby snapping pictures of Liam on her camera. She claims it’s a documentation of the song writing process - pictures they can sell when they are famous, but Liam worries the pictures are for Ruby and that she still has a crush on him. Ruby assures him she doesn’t and Liam accepts this but as he heads off, we see the hurt in Ruby’s eyes. Clearly, she does have feelings for him. When Liam needs inspiration for a song, Ruby is only too glad to open up to him, seeing an opportunity to get closer. Later, as Ruby stands at her locker, lost in a picture of Liam, he approaches and thanks Ruby for her help, the song is great thanks to her. He heads off promising to play it to her later - unaware he’s inadvertently strengthened her feelings for him once more.

Romeo explains to Gina he needs to break up John and Jill so that Jill can focus on her recovery. She’s not strong enough to be in a relationship yet and should be focused on staying sober rather than men. Gina is still resisting any involvement in the plan when Romeo realises he doesn’t actually need her – he can break them up on his own! Later, when he’s recounting his plan to Gina, Xavier overhears and is mortified! Romeo sees his friend’s anger and bails, leaving Gina to cop Xavier’s wrath. Gina explains that she may end up with John in the future and that’s something Xavier will just have to live with, but Xavier tells her he will never accept John Palmer. Later, at school, Romeo tries to explain why he wants to break up John and Jill, but Xavier won’t listen. He’s convinced Romeo is just trying to off load Palmer onto him. Things get tense and Xavier starts a scuffle

Meanwhile, over at Leah’s the tension is rising as Lijuan takes over in more ways than one. After deciding to cook a huge feast without any involvement from Leah, she sets about telling a despondent Angelo (who has just learned he’s going to be investigated after Hugo and Martha escaped) that he must share his troubles with the whole table. Leah insists Angelo doesn’t have to do that, and after some heated words, Song steps in to calm the waters. He succeeds and the two women smile, crisis averted…for now.

(Episode 5098)

Post scuffle, Romeo tries to defend Xavier but Xavier is still on the attack and Liam puts them both on detention. Ruby tries to reach out to Xavier, but he shuts her down, leaving Ruby hurt. Later, when Xavier and Romeo are at detention, Romeo tries to apologise again, but Xavier isn’t interested.

Tony tells a surly Xavier he can help out with his letter box drop to work off some of his negative energy. Xavier is sour at the suggestion and complains the whole time until April shows up. When she sees the fliers and learns of Tony’s boxing classes, she’s thrilled. It’s a pity Xavier isn’t involved with the boxing, if he was – she’d join up. Suddenly the letter box drop is looking up.

Despite the fact she’s running late for school, Penn charms Nicole into having breakfast with him. The morning gets away from her and after repeated attempts to leave the Diner, Nicole makes her way to school. She’s on a high until she learns from Ruby that she missed and exam that was worth 10% of her HSC mark. She snaps at Ruby and heads off, angry at herself. Later, Penn tells her to look on the bright side – there’s still another 90% up for grabs. He plants a kiss on her, and heads off, leaving Nicole surprised. Eventually Nic and Ruby make up, and Ruby’s surprised at Nicole’s good mood.

Tony is surprised when Rachel is positive about his boxing class fliers. She says it’s about time women were offered fitness options other than aerobics.

John tells Jill he’s in love with Gina. He thinks it’s best if she stops staying the night at his place. She should be with her son, working on that relationship.

Alf is struggling to find someone to run the bait shop. When Marilyn says she needs something to do in order to forget about her illness, Miles sees a golden opportunity. Alf offers her the position at the bait shop, but Marilyn’s not keen. She agrees to have a look at the shop, but tells Miles she has moral dilemmas with fishing. Miles understands, but feels for Alf who may have to shut the shop if he can’t find anyone to help. Marilyn notes this and later, when she’s checking out the premises, she stumbles upon an unused space in the shop. Her mind starts ticking over and she tells Alf she may have a solution to his problem – but he’ll have to keep an open mind.

Leah is still struggling having a forthright Lijuan and Song in the house. Things come to a head and Leah can’t take it anymore, telling Elijah she needs a night out so she can relax. They head to the Diner, where Leah confides her fear that planning the wedding will be so stressful with everyone giving their own opinions, she doesn’t think she’ll be able to handle it.

Elijah reassures Leah that they will be fine. They will have fun planning the wedding. There’s no need for her to feel overwhelmed. It seems things are back on track until Leah discovers Lijuan and Song arguing. She asks what’s wrong and Lijuan tells her they know they aren’t wanted. They’ll leave as soon as possible. Leah is confused by their feelings until Elijah confides that he told his parents to tone things down a bit. They got offended and now want to leave.

Xavier is keen on April but after several ill fated attempts to call her, April realises Xavier is nervous and heads over to see him. Xavier does his best to sell April on how great Tony’s boxing classes will be, emphasising the fact he’s Tony’s assistant. April thinks his attempts to woo her are cute and tells him that she will sign up on account of him being involved.

(Episode 5100)

Leah berates Elijah over telling his parents to tone things down. She told him it was the wedding that was stressing her out, not them. Elijah disputes this, but a stern look from Leah sees him take responsibility for the misunderstanding. Lijuan and Song are still adamant they are leaving so Leah seeks advice from Irene re what to do. Irene tells her to lie – it’s the only way. She needs to tell Song and Lijuan how much she needs them around – but Leah refuses. Meanwhile, Elijah is seeking similar advice from Miles. He too suggests lying and surprisingly Elijah agrees. He’s not happy about it, but feels it’s the only way to make peace. Back at the house, Elijah is in the middle of telling his parents he had cold feet over the wedding and made up the fact Leah was feeling overwhelmed, when Leah arrives home. She tells Lijuan that she was feeling stressed having them around, but they probably feel a bit stressed by her, too. That’s what families do. Lijuan appreciates her honesty and chastises Elijah for lying. She thinks Leah has great integrity and will make a wonderful wife.

Miles tries to convince Alf to let Marilyn use the spare space in the bait shop to run her fortune telling business. Alf isn’t sure and even after Marilyn insists how great it would be for his business to diversify, he tells Miles it just won’t work. Meanwhile Marilyn has come up with a business plan and tells Miles what a great money spinner it could be. Seeing her passion, he pleads with Alf a final time. He presses that Marilyn doesn’t have much time left and it would be wonderful for her to spend it doing something she loves. Even if her business did fail, would it really matter, considering the bait shop may go under anyway? Alf thinks on this and finally gives in telling an overjoyed Marilyn she can have her fortune telling business.

Angelo worries about the disciplinary action that may be taken against him over Hugo and Martha’s escape. Wilson, the investigator, grills Angelo over the events surrounding their escape and finds big holes in Angelo's story. Charlie tries to console him, but Angelo sounds like he’s given up. Later, he emerges from another round of questioning and Charlie is shocked to learn he’s been suspended from active duty. Just as things seem like they couldn’t get any worse, Wilson drops a bombshell, telling them that the entire station is under investigation for corruption.
