(Episode 5141)

Angelo berates Indi over selling alcohol to Ruby as a furious Charlie rips into her daughter for being so irresponsible. Ruby insists the alcohol was a gift for Charlie and it was Irene’s idea that Ruby buy it for her. Charlie confronts Irene, telling her how idiotic it was to suggest a teenager buy alcohol as a gift. It’s clear Irene has more to say on the matter, but Charlie puts an end to any more conversation, telling Irene that she’s taking Ruby home to live with her – permanently. Later, Ruby tries to apologise to Indi for getting her into trouble, but Indi’s not interested. She no longer wants to be friends with Ruby.

Over at Sid’s, Indi is copping it too. Sid is desperately disappointed in his daughter and let’s her know just how hurt he is by her actions. Later, Sid tells Marilyn he’s worried he was too hard on Indi. Marilyn tells him to talk to Indi, tell her he’s new to sole parenting but he still loves her, regardless of what she’s done. Sid catches up with Indi on the beach, but she quickly puts an end to Sid’s explanation, berating herself and striding off - leaving Sid feeling very inadequate.

Angelo is beating himself up over Indi’s underage alcohol sale. Despite being let off with a caution, he feels it’s unfair that Indi will receive a fine, he’s her employer – surely he’s responsible. Charlie tells him that Indi can’t be seen to be getting away without any punishment and Alf thinks he should take his caution and let Indi deal with her own mess, but Angelo’s still unsure. Later, he tells Charlie he’s come to a decision – he’s taking the matter to court. He wants to argue Indi’s case and get her fine revoked. Charlie tells him that if he loses he could face gaol time, but Angelo doesn’t care – it’s the right thing to do.

Bianca couldn’t be more unimpressed over her enforced library duty with Liam. He takes advantage of this, enjoying her displeasure and goading her whenever possible. Despite her protests about having to spend time with him, is there a hint of interest from both parties at this imposed pairing?

(Episode 5142)

Charlie pleads with Angelo not to fight his compliance notice in court. Charlie thinks he wants to bail Indi out due to something that happened in his past. Angelo insists this isn’t true – he just thinks it would be unfair if Indi had to live with a record because of one silly mistake. Later, he tells Charlie he used to bail his little brother out of trouble all the time, an act that cost him a share in the family business. Charlie tells him he can’t let that happen again, he can’t take the fall for Indi. Angelo agrees and fires a devastated Indi. Alf tells Angelo he needs someone experienced behind the bar – someone who can look after the staff as well as the patrons. Angelo agrees and makes Alf bar manager of Angelo’s.

Things are off to a tense start in the library for Bianca and Liam. Liam asks Bianca to rate his kissing ability but she refuses to comment. Bianca heads to the bathroom where her emotions get the better of her and she receives a text from Vittorio. Liam senses her upset and apologises, fearing he’s said something to make her feel bad, but Bianca shuts him down and Liam is left feeling very confused.

Leah confronts Ruby over the alcohol fiasco. She tells her to come clean and admit the wine was for her. Again, Ruby denies this and heads to her bedroom as Irene arrives. Leah cans see Irene’s still upset after Charlie’s harsh words. Leah tells Charlie she should apologise to Irene, but Charlie’s loyalties are to Ruby. Charlie asks if Ruby’s come clean about the wine, but Leah says she’s still sticking to her story. The next day, Ruby announces that she doesn’t care if she’s grounded forever – she’s not changing her story, the wine wasn’t for her.

Having cottoned on to the fact Dex may have a crush on Marilyn, Sid attempts to question his son, but they’re interrupted by the arrival of a despondent Indi. Still hurt over the alcohol situation she heads to her room as Dex escapes his father’s questioning. The next morning Sid calls a family meeting and tells Indi he believes she didn’t sell Ruby the alcohol for her own consumption, but he is disappointed. Indi takes that on board as Dex escapes questioning over Marilyn yet again.

John asks Xavier when he’s going to call in his favour, but Xavier isn’t sure. Frustrated, John has no choice but to wait and see what Xavier throws at him, but it’s not all bad as John laps up the praise Gina is throwing at him.

April tries out her school recycling bin speech on Irene who thinks it’s a winner, but April’s worried Gina will be a tough negotiator. Xavier agrees and tells April not to get her hopes up, Gina will only say no to the idea. April is shocked when Gina instantly agrees to the idea, despite having only heard the opening of April’s recycling speech. Although happy the scheme will go ahead, April can’t help but feel a little dissatisfied at the lack of effort needed to convince Gina. Xavier thinks she needs a new challenge and April agrees – she wants to come up with a radical environmental plan for the Bay. She comes up with the idea to ban water bottles in the Bay and asks John to take the matter before council – but he refuses. Xavier tries to get him to change his mind, but again John says no. Later Xavier calls in his favour, blackmailing John into putting April’s proposal forward. If he doesn’t, Xavier will make his life at home a living hell.

Miles takes VJ to Summer Bay House where he produces a letter from Elijah – it’s for VJ. It’s revealed that Elijah has been writing to VJ regularly through Miles, but Leah has no idea. Both VJ and Miles are struggling with keeping the correspondence a secret, but VJ strongly feels Leah is too fragile to deal with anymore Elijah talk at the moment. They agree to tell her as soon as she’s strong enough to handle the news.

(Episode 5144)

April is angry that Xavier is blackmailing John Palmer into putting her water bottle ban proposal to council. She thinks it’s unethical, not to mention illegal. April demands that Xavier go and talk to John and revoke his blackmail threat. Xavier does so, but also pleads with John to still take April’s idea to council, but John refuses. The kids decide they need to get Gina on board to convince John to take the proposal forward, but they need to do it without her knowing. Xavier tells Gina that John is on board and Gina is surprised and thrilled. She praises John for his efforts in trying to get along with the kids and lavishes him with affection. John can’t resist and is forced to play along with the idea that he does in fact intend to put the water bottle proposal forward. It looks like Xavier’s plan has worked a treat.

Miles is concerned about Nicole’s state of mind as she waits for her test results. He thinks she should see a counsellor, or she could talk to him if she likes? But Nicole says she can talk to Penn, he’s helping her through things at the moment. Gina expresses her concerns after Nicole fails an exam. She too would like Nicole to see the school counsellor and Miles endeavours to talk to Nicole again to try and convince her to do this. Penn volunteers to talk to Nicole, he knows how to help her. He tells her that he knows a sure fire way of taking her mind off things, but he won’t tell her how until after she has dinner with him tonight. Later, Alf sees Penn and Nicole laughing together and he doesn’t have a good feeling about things. He tells Miles he’s worried about Nicole spending time with Penn, he’s got a bad feeling about the bloke. After dinner, Penn drops a bombshell on Nicole that will not only take her mind off her test results, but change her life forever.

Leah is still struggling with the loss of her relationship with Elijah. Feeling guilty about keeping Elijah’s correspondence with VJ a secret, Miles suggests Leah try writing to Elijah – perhaps some contact will make her feel a bit better. Leah seems to be considering the idea, but an offhand comment from Colleen about that seeming ‘desperate’ sees Leah abruptly shut down and decide to just try and put Elijah out of her mind for good.

(Episode 5145)

Indi catches Dex working out and intuits he must like a girl. She tells him it’s not all about looks and he should use his great sense of humour and intellect to win over women. When Sid finds Dex up late writing, Dex says it’s a creative writing exercise for school. Sid is surprised by his sudden passion for the written word and when Dex lets slip that love can make you do crazy things, Sid is even more suspicious. Dex sits down to write and we discover the very long letter is to Marilyn. Dex presents it to her the next day and scurries off saying he’ll be back later to see what she thinks of it. On reading the letter, Marilyn’s jaw drops - she doesn’t know what to make of it.

That afternoon, Dex loiters at school, worried he may have been too forward in giving the letter to Marilyn. Miles stumbles upon him and although Dex explains his dilemma cryptically, Miles is able to buoy his spirits and Dex heads back to see Marilyn. She tells him the letter was wrong and she has no choice but to show it to Sid. Dex changes tack and tells her it was just a creative writing exercise for school – he needed to test it on someone to see if they were moved by it and he chose her. She was obviously moved – so, thanks! He heads off leaving Marilyn bemused and not sure she believes his story at all.

Penn tells Alf and Miles that Nicole accused him of planting the needle on the beach. Alf is suspicious of this story but it seems Miles may believe Penn, confused as to why he would make up such a lie. Miles feels the stress of waiting for her test results may be having an affect on Nicole’s mind. Nicole arrives home and picks up on Miles attitude, he is desperately concerned for her, but she’s hurt by his lack of support when she tells him that Penn said he planted the needle and heads to her room, hurt and upset.

The next day Marilyn and Alf make a show of telling Nicole how much they support her, they believe her story about Penn and will do anything they can to help. They also tell Miles he needs to support Nicole and let her know he’s there for her. Later, Penn torments Nicole telling her that he knows Miles is having doubts about her story. Confused and overwhelmed, Nicole heads to Sid’s place and he’s disgusted to learn that Penn said he planted the needle. Nicole is grateful that Sid believes her, and he assures her that he knew there was something weird going on with Penn – he’s sorry he didn’t act on that feeling earlier. Nicole’s pain gives way to tears and Indi arrives home to find Sid with his arm around her. Indi jumps to conclusions, but Nic and Sid explain. Alf tracks down Penn and tells him he’s a liar – he should clear off and leave Nicole alone. But Penn tells Alf to watch who he’s calling a liar.

Alf arrives back at the Surf Club, shaken – but he’s not willing to tell a concerned Marilyn why. Meanwhile, Miles apologises to Nicole and explains that he never thought she was lying about Penn, he was just confused. He’s sorry he didn’t support her and it will never happen again. Later that afternoon, Penn is brought into the hospital – he’s been badly beaten. He reveals his attacker and Sid is shocked.
